Yamaha has recalled 13,000 YZF-R6 motorcycles from its 2006 model year. On certain motorcycles, the air filter mounting screws may come loose and fall out. If the screws fall out, they could get caught in the throttle valve which could prevent the operator from reducing engine speed properly. This could result in a loss of control and a vehicle crash with injury or death.

Also...  keep in mind that the recall only affects 2006 R6...  Not the 2006 R6s...  The R6 is the newer design...

Every "NEW" design has recalls the first couple years.  Nothing abnormal about that.  Even my previous boss with his brand new Lincoln Navigator had three recalls within two years.

Tell me about it. It can happen on the GS as well. If an incompetent moron istalls fuel lines the wrong way and they get caugt in the throttle mechanism. This happened to me when I was quite new to riding; I didn't react in the proper way (which would be hitting the kill switch, of course) and laid her down at a fair clip.

Taught me not to let any "experts" wrench on my cycle, though, so it's all good.

I would suggest that an '06 RR would walk up and down on an '01 R6.  Just my two cents.

I wouldn't know...  I've got an '04 R6
:icon_razz:

And you think an '04 R6 is that much faster than an '06 RR?  Really? Hmmm.

I think you had a bit too much of the Kool-Aid over at the R6 forum.  Remember, An: you're only supposed to believe half of what you read.

Actually, I'm kinda not liking the r6-forum...  It doesn't convey the "family" atmosphere that this forum has.

Also, the helpfulness isn't as good.  I see MANY threads that are started asking a legit question, and sometimes it takes a couple pages until someone answers the original question.  But MOST of the time, no one ever answers the question...  They always post something else.
:dunno_white:

There's another forum for the R6, but I've already got my post-whoring butt into r6-forum.com.

Just playin' wit ya.

oh yes. 600rr.net is probably the least offensive and has some useful info but you get a ton of threads like:
"First bike, which exhaust to get?"
"First bike, what mods to do first?"
"First bike, highsided a block from my house-I blame cold tires!"
"where can I get chrome screen for my first bike?"
"chrome screen or rattle can it black?"
"Will 06 forks fit an 03 and anyone willing to install my frame sliders for me?"
"First bike, whats your max speed?"
"Ran from the cops"

They have separate Crash and Stunt forums, as well as an exhaust forum.

You get the idea...

And you missed the 600rr.net guys by maybe 3 minutes....

later that day we saw 2 (2 I think??) had balled it up in a corner...

Ahh... those guys had class.

yup...  the R6 forum has a dedicated exhaust section.  Also, it looks like some people are trying to make the  "how to wheelie" a STICKY!!!

:icon_rolleyes:

I'm kinda not liking it, but I know I'm gonna be "categorized" because of the R6.  Jeez.

Dude, I didn't think it was that bad at first, so I checked it out. I just read 11 pages of the "Cops crashed my friend" thread.
