Well... I am joining the club of GS500F owners.

I go and pick up my new "used" bike today after work. Its a 2005 GS500F with 5K miles. Black/Red/Silver color scheme bought from a private seller down here in Houston. Not a scratch on it! Other than needing a set of tires soon, the bike is MINT so I'm rather excited to get off of the road hazzard Im currently on.

Any of you guys from Houston want to ride this weekend?

Thanks for the tip on the website.

I only have one friend that has a bike, and its dual sport and rarely takes it out for a ride.

I know I am going to want to ride to Galveston and tour the beach this weekend, or find some good twisties to run on to break the bike in ;-)

Welcome mate  :thumb:

Why does it need new tyres already?

I am not really sure. I heard the factory tires were rather soft, and did not wear well. They are not bald by any standards, but then again I am picky. I will likely replace the tires within 500 miles. This is something I will not skimp on... Just like my cars. I keep good rubber between me and the road.

the stock tires, bt-45s, are not soft at all.  they are actually made to be softer tward the outter walls for handling and harder in the center for commuting.  I havn't had an problems with mine and i have about 7k miles on mine.  They are getting a little low and i will likly replace them next riding season unless i don't get a new to me bike before then

Edit:  And welcome to the zoo

The sucky stock tires (Bridgestone Excedras) were on older GSs.  A 2005 with BT-45?  Run 'em till they're bald.

Welcome

After 5000 miles the rear BT-45 may be getting squared off, I know mine did.  The front should be fine, but I guess I understand if you want to change them as a pair... you don't sound like a cheapskate like the rest of us

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

I get blamed for EVERYTHING around here!

Welcome!

BT-45's could be ridden to about 10k miles; I think I put 11,500 miles on my first set.  I got 12k out of the stock Excedras.  The Bt's are stickier.  And, inexpensive; probably the best $/per mile ratio.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
