Ok i think i know what i am doing but i need to double check?

at the bottom of the ignitions there are two bolt looking things that look like they should have nuts on them.... is that what i need to drill out??

and after that is done all i need are some bolts to go up into the black part, correct????

i'm just double checking before i do it b/c i don't really want to F*ck it up.

Ok I found one on eBay but it doesn't come with a key. What would I have to do to get a key made? It's from a 89 GS so I'm assuming it will fit my 97, correct me if I'm wrong. Here's the link:

i was able to get a complete lockset from a fellow member so i i've got an extra ignition key if anyone needs one.  the key isn't original, but it works.

Kerry

tigerstyle102,

I would be a little surprised if the '89 ignition wouldn't fit, but I'm not going to bet my life that it would.  I did some research on BikeBandit and here is what I came up with:

From 1989 parts list:
Item 13 = SWITCH ASSY, ignition, part number 37100-01D00
Item 14 = .BOLT, part number 09139-06026
Item 15 = LOCK ASSY, steering (Doesn't exist for 1989-1990, different part numbers for each model year between 1991 and 1996)

From 1997 parts list
Item 11 = LOCK ASSY, STEERING, part number 37100-26D02
Item 12 = .BOLT, part number 09139-06026

At least we know that the BOLTs are the same!
