Stay with me for a minute on this....

Sat - Working on the GS - Just little stuff, but took the battery out and put on the Battery Tender.  I had been showing my 15 year old, who wants desperately to learn to ride, a few things and let him wrench a bit.

Sun night/Monday morning - GS was stolen...just an empty cover laying in the carport!!     Was cursing and such.  You know, like "Merry F'ing Christmas to me!!"  Obviously upset but not the right thing to do.  I recently acquired the bike and I was not riding it, so I had not put insurance on it yet....oops.  All the more reason for me to be angry, but no one to blame.

Wed - I woke up and did the normal routine getting ready for work.  At some point I looked at myself in the mirror and I said to myself that the statement I made was bad.  I apologized at that moment for my poor judgment and gave thanks for the fact that I have a nice family, house, and that no one was hurt in the theft.  Here is the interesting part.  At 12:00 on the nose, I got a call from my wife saying that my bike was found!  It had been pushed over the hill into some woods and left there.  I went home to retrieve it and in short the ignition module had been driven through the triple and there was an attempt to hot wire it.  Of course, when the engine did not turn over, the thief just discarded it.  Other than the ignition module, the bike is fine.  A couple of extra scratches, but the bars, triple, forks, pegs...were fine.  Just caked with mud.

To say the least, nothing like that has ever happened to me.  To be honest, I was quite overcome by the fact that 4 hours after I apologized, the bike showed up.  Is it coincidence?  Is it something else...I don't know...I will leave that for all of you to decide.

I did want to do this and that is to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!  And I hope that you find peace in your heart and reflect on those things that are most important to you all.   I think if you take the time and do it with all honesty, you will be happy with what you see!!

Now...anyone have an ignition module?  :icon_mrgreen:

ehh general discussion works for me, it is about a GS  .  Glad that you fot her back.  Make sure that if it as on its side that no gas got in the oil and  that all the fluids are actually still there.  Other than that happy to hear that you got your bike back.  I just put comprehensive on my bike cause all the stolen bikes i have seen on the forum.

Oh and get insurance :thumb:

You can get an aftermarket ignition from Dennis Kirk for around  $30. They're not hard to install but they have 2 theft deterrent bolts holding the ignition in place. I ended up having to drill through the old ignition body and bolts to get the old one off.

When  you got to the part where you said you didn't have insurance my heart dropped.  That would tick me off to no end, knowing that I hadn't put insurance on it yet and it got taken during that time.  Looks like karma (or Christmas spirit or ??) came around for you though :thumb:  Glad you got her back, now hold on tight! (and get some insurance )

Like natedawg, I carry liability if I screw up and comprehensive just incase someone steals it or messes with it... collision doesn't seem worth it to me on this bike though

I've got minimal coverage on both the GS and R6 to cover for theft and vandalism, but not collision.

I'm glad to hear you got your baby back. :thumb:

 :2guns: :2guns: DIE THIEVES!!!

At least the damage was minor...  A while back some thieves broke into my buddy's car...  When they couldn't get the stereo out, they smashed it and cut up the dash.

Someone else I know had their 70's H#nda CB400 stolen...  The thief took it to the local park and off-roaded it until it broke...

Glad to hear you got your GS back in one piece.   :thumb:

Wow crap... good to hear you got it back in one piece, sorry to hear you got it stolen!

You should dust the bike for prints, run them in the national database, and then go to the motherfather's house and burn it to the ground. When he comes out in his pajamas you should nail him in the forehead with a 16" x 5/8 in homemade fork tool. Then, if it is cold where you live, pour buckets of cold water on him and tattoo BIKE THIEF on his forehead with a swastika, then let him loose later that year at Sturgis.

Thanks Guys! Appreciate the support.  When I got back to my desk today my first call was to my insurance agent.  Also a good friend.  I had started it a couple of weeks back and was supposed to get him the VIN.  Was totally my fault.  I put some comp on it til spring.  Funny how you do something stupid like that.  I consider myself above average intelligence and then I do a bone head thing like that.  The only thing I carry full coverage on is my 954.  It is in storage at none other than my insurance agents house!  Figured that was a good place for it...

I would love to find the guys that did it for sure.  The cop never even got out of the cruiser.  Was a bit irritated by that, but what can you do?  If I find out though...it is gonna get ugly for sure!  People should not be able to just get away with things like that.

One other thing.  My son washed her up after school today and there doesn't seem to be any hidden stuff.  so that is good news too.  Hard to believe considering where I found her.  The hill was a good 45 degrees and slick.  Trees every where.  Thought for sure the clipons were going to be busted up and maybe some peg issues....but she looks good.  I think it says a lot for the bikes ruggedness too.

^HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

glad to hear your chassis is safe and sound with minimal damage.

My old lady is all into that karma stuff... that good things happen to good people and bad things to bad people.  I put a little less faith into karma(though I can't help but notice some odd coincidences now and then strangley similar to this "karma" thing).  Like I consider myself a good, decent human who treats people kindly and with respect, ect.  But if it were my bike stolen, the thief would get away without a hitch, try to sell the bike two weeks later and, after I prove to the cops that it IS my bike with vin numbers, full description of my bike down to every nut and bolt and picture proof of it in my garage, get told that there's nothing they can do for some strange reason.  but thats just me...  Sh!t flows downhill and i'm short!
