Custom Paint ideas?

Yeah so I bought a GS awhile ago with the intent of making it into a winter project.  All is going well so far however I planned on painting the bike myself this spring and even implementing a simple yet custom design to the paint. The problem is that my reoccuring lack of creativity has left me without a definite design for the bike. Although I won't be painting for awhile, I'd love to lay down a plan well ahead of time so I can prepare accordingly. I plan on having a black base (subject to change of course) and one or two more colors for the design.  THe point of this topic is for anyone who wants to, to put forth an opinion as to what would look good, bad, wild, whatever.  If you have an idea or an opinion I'd love to hear it, or even if you say "hey, look at the 19xx so and so bike's design, thats pretty sweet"

Metallic black base coat, topped with a candy color of your choice. That way it looks black dead on, but when it's in the sun it sparkles whatever color the candy is. Looks gorgeous.

Maybe do what alpha says - get a touch of a blue in there to hit Suzuki. then i reckon a thin prolly 3mm or slightly larger double pinstripe down each side following the lines of the fairing and tank. Bringing it right back to the tail. Then a simple white or smoked misty decal or tribal art on the tank around where a tank pad would go.

I want to do a military-themed matte paintjob to match my KBC "Combat" VR1 Helmet's paint scheme.  I could probably tackle that myself

are you going for "damn, that looks freakin sick!" or do you want to be seen?

i personally think black is for trim, not a main color (i know, i'm wierd, i don't care.) but i've always wanted to do a deep, dark crimson then put slightly reddish pearl in the first couple clear coats. and, as was mentioned in another thread, layer after layer after layer of clear. illudes to there being more "depth". the pearl in the first couple clears looks great, no matter what colors are in play (well, the colors have to work well with eachother). i did a carbon fiber hood (including a 9 inch cowl) on the drag car i raced in hs. we cleared it with blue pearl so it was carbon fiber, you could see that, but it had a blue-ish tint to it. looked AWESOME.

but of course, if you want to be seen, there are always saftey colors like orange, red, yellow, green that i'm sure you could come up with a cool scheme to still make the bike look good.

yeah I'm not really looking to be seen or have anything rediculously outlandish.  The main motivation behind painting is that the bike is ugly as shaZam! right now.  I was just thinking a simple design like you would see on any old sportbike cruising down the road but alot of the layering ideas sound pretty cool.  I'm afraid however their subtle effects would be lost to its most important viewer, me.  I'm colorblind.  Which makes coming up with a design that have colors that go well together even harder.

I've wanted my bike the same colour as my car since i got it... orange blast pearl.  Electric blue lettering with black pins with a HEAVY metalflake.  Powder coat the frame black and add a dash of chrome is what im going for this winter while i can't ride it.

I kinda like flames, they catch my eye every time. use the black (metalic) for your base and mask with pin tape to geth the flames shape, use a semi bright orange for the lead in colour, then fade it to a very deep rich purple at the flame bows and tips. remove pin and mask tape, build 3 caots of synthetic laqure and then the 4th laq coat should have a holographic flake in it. Makesure the final coat has a constant even air pressure to the gun otherwise the flake will dish out. could always top that with a blue candy flip

Coat the bike with light reflective paint. I believe one brand is called Magic Brite. Would look cool at night.

Reflective paint is a type of paint which contains thousands of little glass spheres, designed to reflect lots of light, even at night. It is most frequently used for signs on highways, but is also used on license plates, fishing lures, on mobile objects to be tracked (like a golf ball), or as an indicator on certain machinery.

I just painted my bike 2 mounts ago . We use black metallic color and add inside little blue metallic  color. So when bike receive sun light color change between blue and black. It is amazing

I just finished painting my bike after an accident.  I used rattle can auto paint (its an 89, so I didn't want to spend too much on it).  I used the BMW steel blue metalflake color, then did a bright white racing stripe down the middle, and edged it with silver metalflake pinstripe.  On my bike, the two side plastics are held together right above the headlight by a small center piece, so i painted that white and pinstriped it and used those dimensions for the stripe down the tank.  I think it looks really nice (for a rattle can job).

Sicarii paint is totally tasteful and clean...  But, it's not just loud and tacky enough for my taste...


Now...  If the blue was yellow and the white was black-metalic...  NOW you'd be talking.

I am thinking about painting the front fender and also the grab bar, but the main problem is I can't get the front fender off... the hex head screws are stripped out.  I'm trying to decide whether to continue the stripe on the fender or just paint it blue.
