well I am thinking of buying a new harley, they hold their resale value really well and I like the looks of the 883R . I like the way they feel and sit. this is somthing for me to just cruise on and enjoy a second rider. my GS is for fun by myself.

so either lets here the bashing or the praise lol.

haha no ive never had a problem in that department. I just honestly like the bike and the history it has. honestly all the girls I know dont really like harley's . they are all into the sport bikes. I was reading the history on the sportster and it being a track bike was a pretty cool thing.

don't waste your time on a 883....get a big one 1200/1340/....whatever soft tail....
the women i see lately are getting the big ones to start with to save the depreciation on the 883's
prices are down
the days of top dollar are waining

every rich bastard who wanted a H-D....now has one

and all the H-D riders are on a harley site.....

couldn't resist
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

get teh 883, and the 1200 conversion. can be done at teh dealership, ( so it will have a warranty) and actually save some $ vs buying the 1200 outright

cause actually, the 883 and teh 1200 share many things.  same lower end, same heads. only difference is larger pistons, and cylinders. plus with a lil ingenuity, you can, convert it to a 1340  :icon_twisted:. their resale value is nice, not as nice as it used to be, but still nice, and their not as big of a pos as many here would have you believe

oh yea I didnt know you could do that. that is pretty cool .
yea I know a lot of people hate harley's although I never did follow the trends. I like what I like and thats it.

hell I put money into volvos because that is what I liked to have fun with. if you think about it its not like a volvo is exactly a cool car hahha.

but I really like that idea of the conversion! I will check into it.

I wouldn't mind test riding an 883R and a 1200.  And some Buells while I am at it.

The Sportsters don't look bad and I think they really look sweet with some of the street tracker conversion parts.

Too bad they're so pricey

the buells are sweet the problem is I can never see the one I want in person, every harley dealer doesnt dsiplay them well or doesnt order them in, i went to go buy one actually and they said they didnt have any but could order it and I said well why dont you have any? they said they werent in big popular demand and I was like well no wonder no one can see them in person so I didnt want to buy one untill I saw it in person.

I really love the look of the sportster though somtimes you want that low rumble on a bike and just chill rather than the yang yang of a sport bike.

and NO...  I'm NOT gonna open up a box to show you, and when you're done, you don't want it, or better yet...  you want an un-f*cking-opened box!!!

Why is the dealer gonna spend THEIR money on something that THEY'RE NOT GONNA SELL MUCH OF?!?!?  Granted, people DO buy buells, but the ratio of Buell to HD owners...  uh...

...is kinda...

LOW.

I'm not diggin that swingarm much... looks like you might lose the rear of the bike after hitting a bump in the road.  Props for the chain drive tho.

I like to do the same thing, but the crabby shop assistant is all like "if you keep taking the tooth brushes out of the packets we can't sell them, so please stop or I will have to call shop security".

i love harleys, and big cruisers in general.
i traded my gs in on a boulevard c50 and have been very happy.

but as harleys are concerned, if your gonna get one, go big. skip the sportster.
i rode one just the other day, a 1200, and that thing was uncomfortable, and vibrated WAY too hard.
the newer ones are probably a lot better in this dept, i rode a 95, which doesnt have a rubber mounted motor, but even so, that is a lot of motor for that bikes size and frame. just didnt feel right to me.

The softail on the other hand, is hands down the nicest bike ive ever ridden. if i could afford it, i would have one now
i have a feeling that i am only saying that because i havent ridden one of the huge harley touring bikes yet.

but yea, my oppinion: skip the sportster and get a real harley. but only you can be the judge. find one to test ride, and go for whatever you like best.

porsche4786

My dad had an 883 for a while, nice little bike, I liked it. He has since sold it and bought an road king classic. Much bigger, and much more comfortable.  The 883 doesn't really like 2 up going up much of a hill. I'd go for a 1200 at least. But the touring models are a much better deal. although I'd love to have a low rider. Never had any problems with either harley. The heratige softail has the counter balanced engine (?) I think that's the one, it idles much more smoothly, better for around town riding, but the other touring models are better for highway riding.

theres a diffence in a 30-800 dollor printer .......... vs ........ a 7k+ bike :) i'd understand that .. if i was about to spend that kind of money i'd want to see it sit on it ... look at it .. make sure its what i want .. 90% of the time pictures just dont do it . and i work at walmart so i get some strange customers :)

i used to work in retail for many years, and as a person that has been on both sides. Im not spending 11k on a bike I cant see in person. its called what the customer wants not what the business wants to do. Thats how you make money.

You need to atleast have one single Buell in the shop maybe a lightning ot a Firebolt but not a damn ulysses.

I spend my money wisely and thats why I have a good amount of it when I need.

gs/883R

eh not much more HP but almost twice as much tq.  nice low end power.

http://www.motorbikes.be/en/compare/1336/5692/

gs/1200R low

You pay a couple thousand more for this one though over the 883R.

and last but not least the Buell GS compare.

http://www.motorbikes.be/en/compare/1336/5508/

I just love the firebolt. I still might pressure the Harley Dealer to bring one to the shop I mean Im pretty sure I would buy it . I have seen the lightningt before and sat on it and I know the firebolt is almost identical although this was a few years back and I need a refreshure before I spend almost as much as I bought my brand new ford ranger for.

But then you have the GSXR750 for cheeper and with the new location of the exhuast they compete well with the buell.

heres another pointer, if you want a sportie 1200, get an 883, then get the heads, carb, cyls AND pistons from a firebolt (1200), direct boltin  :thumb:

I would ride this bike.  Hell, I'd sell my bike and have this as my only bike and I'd be pretty stoked.  Why doesn't Harley make and sell this bike?  I love street trackers and this one is no different.
