Okay, I need to get new anti-virus software. But I'm getting confused. I've used norton systemworks for a while. Which software do I really need? Systemworks has anti-virus on it along with other helpfull tools to fix your computer if it has problems. They also have norton anti-virus (seperate and cheaper), norton confidential, and norton internet security. Which of these do you need?  What do you use?

Systemworks - Protects your computer from everyday usage

Internet Security - Protects your computer from internet harm (mainly)

Both have AV...  I recommend the Internet Security.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

as long as you are careful and have antivirus and an antispyware software you should be fine.  I use symantec corp edition cause i get it for free from VT.  I use windows defender because it offers realtime spyware protection for free.  I do not use a firewall but then again i know what i am doing and keep the AV and AS softwares up to date and scan regularly.

PS there are good AV programs out there for free like AVG or Avast.  Google can find them i am sure, i am just being lazy.  Norton should be fine as well if you don't like the free stuff.

I am a computer tech and I reccomend AVG to all my clients.. Its free, works seemlesly and updates using small files on startup so there is no long wait while downloading updates.

I have used AVG for abot 3-4 years and never had a problem. Why pay $ every year for upgrades and "new versions" Get AVG free!

AVG is what I use now (previously used both Symantec and McAfee at one time or another, but they both screwed up my 'puter in one way or another ). No problems after switching to ~*FREE*~ AVG!  :kiss3:

Norton I/S Pro always screws up for me. I will never use Symantec products again.
Common sense in not very common.

I used AVG a while back, and it was only a trial thing...but I'll check it out. We need anti virus for 4 computers, the only thing with AVG is that the free version you only get anti virus, no anti-spyware or identify theft prevention.

symantec product are all rubbish. they do more harm then good by hogging system resources, and nagging you about updates and shaZam! every 10 minutes.

best antivirus and antispyware software is Trend Microsystems, http://www.trendmicro.com

i dont know about prices for consumer stuff, but i use their enterprise stuff on all the networks i administrate, and in 6 years havent had any problems.

i think the consumer version is $50, and comes with 3 licenses, so if you have a network at home you can protect all your computers.

Well this is dumb, I'm at work and was going to update my notron stuff before the subscription runs out (1/14/07) and it won't let me, it is trying to make me renew my subscription before I can download anything! what BS!!!

Also, this is for the company, so I can't use the free AVG stuff. I will just make the company pay for 5 users, that covers home computers and work computers. Still recommend AVG? I was thinking the AVG internet security which includes pretty much all you need. $166 for 2 years for 5 computers.

Yes, it's still the best solution out there.  We switched from our corporate Norten license to a per user AVG license in 2006 and have had no issues.

For home users, I'd strongly suggest AVG + Sygate Firewall (Free Home Edition).  I've had this combination on my wife's machine for years, and we've had no problems.  My machine has something far better.

I installed that sygate firewall, but with it installed I couldn't open web pages thru another progrem (like when opening up my mailbox with msn messenger, or even when going to the sygate website from the firewall program), I uninstalled it and I still cannot open my mailbox, i even did a restore from yesterday and it worked then. it worked before i installed sygate today.

well, i guess the internet was just being dumb at the same time i installed it because the other computers were doing the same thing. but i'm about to throw this router out the window. I'm trying to set up restricted access for only the wireless users in our house and it doesn't always show everybody. Also, my dads laptop it 3 feet from the router and it has a very low signal what a POS. So I'm not sure if it's the router or if it's the computer that is making this soo difficult.

What kind of router? Belkin? Belkin is shaZam!.

Linksys or D-Link are the only 2 I'd recommend. Just my $.02 though
