I put all this time into painting my bike, with about a dozen layers of clear coat. Lookin great... Then whaddya know, I am needing the gas. Add gas, no problem. Little gas droplet on tank and BOOM. &@^%*#& up paint. Acrylic Enamel apparently can do nothing to protect itself at the hands of gasoline (ARRRRRGH GASOLINE HANDS!!!).

Please purvey preferable petrol proof paints.

Well as far as Clearcoat Rattle Can Plasticoat High Heat does a Great job.Buffs out very well too.
If it's Not Broke Modify it.

Well... I've since fixed it and been careful when gassing up. It basically just ate the paint. I'll try the high heat stuff, thanks

You gotta let that stuff set for about two months before pouring gasoline on it.  At that point, if you wipe it up quickly, you shouldn't have a problem.

About a month after I got mine painted, I overfilled on a hot day and gas spilled all over my tank oops...I was scared my paint was gonna be wrecked...my clear wasn\'t rattle canned, it held up fine, I wiped it off right away, continued on our 100mile poker run and then washed it when I got home. My paint had cured enough that I could use non-silicone waxes on it and I had waxed it a bunch before hand though.

Any non-catylized paint (as in, anything from a rattle can) will be mucked up by solvents.  Enamels suck too, urethane all the way.

For something as small as a bike, you can get an automotive paint jobber to mix up your paint the catylist and put it in a spray can, but you'd better  have everything ready.
