Triumph Scrambler 900.

Today was flipping through a magazine, and came across the scrambler.

Of course I had seen it before, but never really noticed it. It really is a stunning bike after all.

But look at that! 47hp. Something isn't right there. And 500lbs! The Thruxton 900 (that was supposedly the fastest bike at the Vespa rally I attended on the GS. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=29953.0 ) Only sports 57hp! AND 450 lbs!

I was king of the scoots...

Anyways back to the scrambler. Opinions? Besides the fact a GS could eat its' lunch.

I've always liked the classic cafe-racer type naked bikes. The Scrambler is sweet, but I'm in love with the Triumph Thruxton. *sigh...

I like the Scrabler... It's like a giant H#nda 90.

But... Just like everyone else, I like the Thrux more.

Do be honest with you, the none of those retro Triumphs are going to knock your socks off. The Bonnie, the Scrambler, or the Thruxton. Steven McQueen may have been fast on one, but pretty much everybody else will be slow. But damn they look good. I've spent a lot of time looking at all these bikes in person. Never riden one though.

Motorcyclist did an article comparing the two (thrux and scramber). They both left a lot desired. I don't remember the month or exactly what was said but the testers weren't very high.

The stats on these retro Triumphs are pretty much in line with the originals. I believe the original Bonnies were lighter though and only displaced 650cc. The newer ones however should be much more reliable. Kind of like comparing a Mazda Miata to a Triumph TR6, no more needing to be sure your on the good side of your mechanic. Bonneville war story: In 1965 a friend of mine attempting to impress the chicks wheelied his Bonnie the length of McDonald's parking lot, couldn't get it down, and stoved in the door of a parked car. Fortunately no one was injured to any extent. His biggest concern as I remember was how he was going to explain this to his folks.

They're faster than the GS, but slower than the SV (from what I've read)... Roughly 70 HP.

Pretty good for an OLD bike, damn terrible for a new bike.

But, they're not just built to look old, they're built to act old... Old tech engines.

Also they are both far heavier than the GS.
