who has taken gsxr peg and shifter linkage and brackets and modefied them to fit the gs500?

I am going to look on ebay for the parts and modefy the gsxr brackets onto the gs500.

I just bid on the new style brackets and pegs for the rear pasenger pegs.

I am still searching ebay for a decent price on the newer style front set ups that are 100% complete.

One problem I will run into is aluminum and attaching it to the steal frame, most likely I will have to create a steel bracket to mount the gsxr brackets or use the gsxr brackets to form a whole new bracket.

this causes me  to think about making an aluminum gs500 frame :). could be a start for a beautiful relationship.

I have done the linkage shifter several times. But I used Woodcraft rearsets first then later made my own, fixed and adjustable.

I know the GSXR600 rearsets are close, maybe 1/2 a hole off. Not exactly sure of the year but they are pre-2000.

You can fabricate an adapter plate out of steel or aluminum, bolt it to the frame and then bolt the rearsets to them. Or you can weld up the stock GS mounting holes, including the recessed area with a steel plate and then make new holes for whatever rearsets you want to use.

I have a set of 03 Gix1k pass pegs that I will be installing in a couple days. They are the same as 03-04 1k and 04-05 600/750. Looks like they will fit just right. Cut off the stock mounts, weld on some tabs with tapped holes and bolt them on. The exhaust hanger mount is on the back side, which for me will help with the fabricated exhaust.

hey dgyver,

I was planning on ordering a set of Woodcraft CFM rearsets but was wondering what else would be needed for a GP shift setup?

any year GSXR600 peg?

and I'm not too familiar w/ linkages, but what one will I be able to modify for this setup?

thanks.

Whats the point of a rearset?
from dgyver picture the rubber part of the shifter lever appears to be in about the same location  :dunno_white:

im not to sure I understand the "rearset" system... explain to me. I am guessing it sits back a little farther than the gs ones. I mean I see them on ebay and they are called rear set but what does that mean because rear set to me would mean passanger pegs, but I know this is not the case. how to they feel compared to everything else?  and what are you adjusting./ excuse me for my ignorance , I would really like to learn more about this

For GP shift, you will need what is in that pic....splined knuckle, shift rod, break pedal, foot peg. The GS footpeg from Woodcraft does not work with a linkage shift, so get one for a GSXR. Somthing like 96-2000 gsxr's are the same. I do not remember the shift rod length but I believe I used one from my TLR when I first set up my Woodcrafts for GP shift. 99-02 SV and TL parts will work as well except that the stock pegs have a little strip of rubber on them.

You are mistaken. The peg is back about 1-1/8" and up about 1-3/4", which is about the same as Woodcraft. I designed the plates to adust from stock to Woodcraft for a total of 10 positions.

Rearsets are the driver's footpegs...the driver's rear controls. It is a little confusing but these were probably named such from racing, where you do not have passengers.

this is what the left and right passenger pegs look like that I am bidding on.   I cant wait to get sturdy pegs on this bike and finally I can ride passengers with confedence.

I looked at those type but I was concerned that they would be too long, at least for my application. I am working on a high mount exhaust.

Also, I just got finished installing the tabs and repainting the sub-frame. I wished I had done this before putting the bike together.

well I can shorten the brace and and reweld what ever I need to on it. Infact I can weld aluminum to steel and make it look good and have the same structural strength of a certified weld. I actually got a piece of steel pipe to weld to a piece of aluminum pipe and pass certification. its a pain so Ill probly cut then machine new stuff If I need.

I will be moddifing a stock exhaust with a custom S-bend midpipe and a bolt-on can. It will be a semi-high mount. There will be tab on the midpipe to mount it. I still need to finish mocking it up to have the midpipe bent to fit.

Cool beans, just curious because the peg seemed to be higher then stock.

dgyver

It is not really that much different but it is a little higher, maybe 1/4-1/2". I positioned them (front-to-rear) in about the same location as stock. The biggest difference is that the mounting point is on the backside of the peg now.
