Haha, had you goin, bet you thought I wrecked again, huh?

Ok, it's good news/bad news time.

Good News: I got the bike running flawlessly yesterday, after I put in fresh gas. Filled up the tires. Started first try, idles where it should.

Bad News: On my 2nd ride of the day, I hit one of the stupid bumps in the Atlanta roads that are like 10" high, and blew BOTH front fork seals. So now I have to get the fork seals off my old forks and put em on the new forks. Oh well, coupla hours of work, if I can figure out how to disassemble the forks.

Good News: I got Turd's clipons installed, and HOLY CRAP, they make such a HUGE difference in riding position and feeling!

Bad News: I have the left one adjusted slightly wrong, so my left wrist hurts like a mother right now, and my back hurts from the strain of riding for 1.5 hours straight, since I was so excited to have the bike running again.

Good News: I got the new rim/tire from Dave yesterday

Bad News: I almost got in the car and drove home before my friend pointed out the fact that the new rim didn't have a rotor on it, so I went and took the old rotor from the old rim. So I guess that one wasn't so bad.

Good News: I have about 5 coats of paint on Cafeboy's single seat cowl, and it looks damn good, but I'm going to do about 5 more, with sanding to fill in a few small imperfections that I'm not happy with (mostly due to my paint being TOUCHED WHILE WET by stupid people).

Bad News: I don't have the money yet to get the subframe straightened, so I can't mount the tail plastics yet, so the bike looks odd with the cowl/seat but no plastics.

Good News: After a little cleaning/lube, the old chain, despite being rusty, seems to work decently well, until I get the new one from Brian.

Bad News: I took the bike on the interstate to do a few high speed runs... and somehow blew my license plate off, along with the bracket that holds it to the fender, and the LEDs I had that glow onto it. Oops.

I'm not sure what to do about that last one... The tag was a FL tag, and I have FL insurance through progressive. I can't get a GA tag until I get GA insurance. I can't afford to get a new insurance policy right now, so I have to keep the FL policy (It's paid through July of this year). I know if I cancel the policy, Progressive will pro-rate it and give me a partial refund. But then I'd have to take the refund and put it towards a new policy, and I can't pay the difference. So I have to keep the FL insurance right now, which means I need another FL tag. But I don't know how to get one without being in the state. Perhaps I'll do some googling.

Anyway, pics to come tomorrow, right now it's raining outside. The bike looks great, I touched up all the scratches on my case guards and stuff.. as soon as I get the plastics on, the only indicator of the wreck will be the scratches on the Speedo bezel, since I can't replace that.

Also, if anyone has any stock mirrors they want to sell for cheap/give away, LMK, PLEASE.. I need to get some ASAP.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Turd Ferguson

Glad you got the clip ons installed.  How much room is there between the starter and horn buttons at full lock?  PICTURES!!!  I spent a shaZam!-load on those, I deserve some pictures!!!

What kind of 10" bump did you hit?  Sounds pretty insane if it blew the fork seals...

Honestly, Nick, glad you got to ride the GS again.  Its been a long time coming!

P.S.  and yes, I cringed like a mo-fo when I read the subject line of this thread...

Dude. I got really worried when I read the title. And then I saw a big block of text and got even more worried (you usually give plenty of detail when you go down), and I was too lazy to read it, so I just stayed worried until I decided to come back and read it.

So yeah. Glad you didn't crash.

Turd, there's roughly 2 - 2.5" clearance. Plenty, like, no danger at ALL of the clipons ever hitting the tank. I've got the left one rotated down too far though, it's putting an odd strain on my wrist, plus the lack of riding for four months, so I'm retraining the muscles in my hands/neck/back/abs.

Also, ten inches was an exaggeration.. but the bump I hit was probably a difference of at least 3 inches, where they're repaving an area. The roads here in Atlanta blow donkey nuts.

Brian.. yeah, I imagine several people thought I was going down. I was kinda put out when I saw that I had over 30 views and no replies, glad to see SOMEBODY likes me.

Oh yeah, my horn no longer works.. I can't figure out why. Oh well, I just pull in the clutch and rev to 10K

+1.

I was freaking out when I read the title.  I freaked out even more when I saw how much you wrote. :o  Then I calmed down after the first line. :2guns: :2guns: :2guns:

Glad you're getting to go ride, unlike me and other Northerners who are trapped in this frozen hellhole.

Haha, it's not much better here. Yesterday it was about 35*F. I decided I wanted to go for a shakedown ride, then realized I needed to get on the interstate and keep the revs high if I wanted to charge the battery. About 15 minutes in, I went "oh, holy crap, I'm retarded.. it's farging cold!"
