Bar Ends

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I need to get a set of bar-end weights (sliders?) for my '96.  Anyone know where I can order them, or are there some standard sizes that will fit?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

you can usually pick up aftermarket bar ends at any motorcycle parts/accesories store.  

if you want stock ones, the part number is:

56200-01840

I'm sure a dealership could order them for you, and you might be able to find them other places as well.

Local stealership quoted 2 hours of labour to install those bar ends if you can believe that. I don't remember how much they were price wise but it seems like they were about 50-60 bucks.

Lockhart Phillips has them in the 10-20 dollar range and can be installed by just about anyone with a phillips screwdriver in less than 5 minutes.

Either that or $50 + 2 hours @$75/hr.

Iv'e got some black aftermarket bar ends with the rubber peices that fit into the handlebars and expand as you tighten an allen bolt to secure them.  They're supposed to cut down of handlebar vibration.  I used them for maybe a month before I got bar end mirrors, and now I don't need them.  I'd probably be willing to part with them for cheap if you want them.  I liked them b/c they were about half the length of the stock bar-ends (I can't stand the stock bar ends).  If you want them email me at john18_69@hotmail.com and let me know.

PS- On some of the GS's the stock bar ends attached to metal inserts inside the bars.  If you have metal peices inside your bars with threaded holes in them, you may not be able to use my ends.

My '96 has those stupid metal inserts that will not take the Allen bolts provided with LP bar ends.  There is a solution though.   Flat head phillips machine screws will hold the bar end firmly in place.  The cone shaped profile of the screw will hold the bar end in place, even though the screw diameter is smaller than the hole in the bar end.  You'll need to go to your hardware store and buy a metric screw.  I'm not sure but I think the guy mumbled something about 6 mm to me.  Make sure it is long enough to hold the bar end securely in place.  When I changed bar ends, the screws I bought were a couple of mm too long and I had to cut the screw length down to fit.  If you have the Suzuki screw and bring that in, you should do fine.

Oh, and you can look for bar ends at http://www.newportcycleparts.com.  You would need the ones w/o the rubber stoppers.
