I just had to post a great big THANK YOU!!to the message board.  You guys have helped me so much getting my bike running.  In addition to my carb problems I was having trouble with my brake lights.  I didn't think that they were working.  So this morning I did a search on here.  It seams that some guys were having the problem that their brake light was Always on.  So I went out this morning and pulled the cover off my tail lights and sure enough both filiments were lit.  I traced it back to the rear brake and saw that the spring was too tight and holding the switch out.  A few turns of the adjusting nut and we were back in buisness.

You guys are the best!

Hey...I'm a newbie to the forums and to bikes actually....just got my license today and I own a Black/Silver GS500.  I noticed only now that my brake light isn't working.  I read here that it seems to be always on for this guy, for me since I've never seen I don't know the difference.  Where is this plug or switch I need to check to see where the problem is?  I'm reading about filaments too and now I'm confused.  Any help you can give would be great.

...

There are 2 switches. The front brake switch is under the right hand lever and the rear brake switch is activated with a spring attached to the rear brake pedal.

Make sure you have good bulbs first.
Common sense in not very common.
