Got a oil leak, left hand side. Shifter side. Its not the sprocket cover, I checked. Its the left hand side cover. Don't have a manual, is this side straighg forward? Ie drain the oil, pull the cover, scrape it, reinstall and refill it? I noticed a sensor wire/rubber "plug" at about the 1 o'clock position. Any info would be helpfull. I've done the right side already so I'm hopeing this is just as easy...
Thanx and I know, buy a manual!

been a while so the specifics aren't fresh on my mind, but yeah it's pretty straight foward to swap out.  The only thing you'll really have problems with is getting the stator cover back on without smashing your fingers.  Make sure that the gasket you put back on there is a good, thick, quality piece.

Cool, thanx for the reply! I was thinkn it was straight forward, I'll just go to the stealership and get the oem gasket.

I have had the same oil leak. The biggest challenge you will face is removing the old gasket. It will be baked on and won't peel off.
Combination of the gasket remover chemicals and the scraper got the old stuff off, but it took some time. Also, if using the gasket remover, you would have to be very careful not to spray on the outside black surface of the cover or it will strip the paint instanteneously.

Yeah, I own the worlds best gasket scraper, did I spell that correctly? Used it like crazy when I had my vw, seems like I was always tearing that thing apart and maken it "better".  Lol

As far as the wire be careful when pulling the cover. There's just enough slack to get the cover off.

rob1bike

Yeah, they never really give you enough wire to work with...but it save manu costs and waste... I'll just cut em anyway

Just kidding!

You can lean the bike to the right without draining the oil but an oil change cannot hurt.

When installing the cover to help align the gasket, I use 2 of the long bolts from the sprocket cover. With them through the cover and the gasket, they are long enough to thread in a little and guide everything together before the magnet sucks the cover on. This prevents the gasket from getting damaged.
Common sense in not very common.

Really? It will draw the cover on? Hmmmmm, that's interesting. Is it any harder to get off?
Those are good tips!

Yep there is a pretty strong magnet in there. Not really that much more difficult to remove. The magnet will grab quickly....like Mak said, watch your fingers.

Neat, I can't wait to tinker with it!
I went around and gave all the bolts a lil extra love and it seemed to slow the leak down but the seals been breached, its still there.
