Repaint Dash?

Hi All,

Just repainted my exhaust this weekend. Had a blast, and just today started thinking "you know, that dash is pretty scratched up from keys banging around." Anyone messed with refinishing their dash? I haven't even looked real close at it yet... would it be a pain to pull? If it's doable without too much fuss, any ideas on what would look classy? Maybe just stay with the silver (bike is '96 naked, black and silver)? While I'm in there I might go for LEDs in the cluster.

By the way, thanks for such a great board! I'm not a performance rider, just a daily commuter, so I haven't jumped into the deeper mods yet. But I am trying to learn my bike so all the knowledge here is great.  :thumb:

You'll want to sand it first with some fine sand paper to help the paint adhere to the surface.  Prep is key!

On a side note, I have a small obsession with 96 GS500's.  The charcoal colored frame gets me all worked up and excited!  Post some pictures of your bike!  I'll show you mine if you show me yours... ;)

Oh, sorry to get you all excited over nothing. It's a '97, not a '96. I wish I had that charcoal frame, though! But no, just boring ol' silver.

Hmm, now where have I seen that bike ? Oh ya, it's in my park, covered in rain and leaves waiting for the sun to come out.

I think I like the monochrome look the best. I'm thinking of a checkerboard pattern (frame silver with the 'black' which is really midnight blue) on my buell flyscreen when it arrives.

There was a mini cooper with checkered mirrors and roof for sale a while back. really liked the looks of it.

Great looking bike you have there!

I still love the silver frame/black combo.  Most of the GS's with the silver frame also had a black engine.  I wonder what year they went to the silver engine/silver frame combo?  Very clean looking bike, I dig it!

Mine has a black frame with a silver engine...

The picture flatters the bike (shoot at night, hide the rusty corners in the shadows). But, I hope to be cleaning it up bit by bit.

No matter what, though, it's never gonna look as good as that back frame.
