Wanna make a buck? How much to build a nice looking 70-100 lbs bow for my father in law?

Doug, I just quoted someone on the very same thing and it'll run around $215, including a half dozen arrows spined for the bow.  This for an 84" bodark, oak, or yew bow (whichever I can get easiest) backed in rawhide that will draw between 85 and 125 pounds at 30 inches.  I can also back it in carbon fiber/kevlar for an additional $45, but it's not as nice on the eyes as traditional materials.

I think that project can wait until after he gets a "man's" haircut.

makenzie71

haircuts cost $13/2~3 weeks.  That's more expensive than cable in my area.  I'll probably not get it cut until I get married next year...and then I'll probably not cut it again until the next social event in which appearance makes a shaZam!.

makenzie71

I use to have one of those and they suck.  Plus I'd rather spend the $15 on food.  As far as self-grooming goes, I prefer stainless surgical scissors, and I use them when the "mullet" starts to make itself known (I hate mullets).  The rest though...meh.  I don't care.  It ties back neatly when I need it out of the way and it sure keeps my head warm (I get to spend 3-4 hours in 10* weather tonight lotting and feeding cattle).

I know I'll get mocked for this.. but my hair is a good bit longer than Mak's.. I'll see if I can find pics..

The first two were taken in the car on the way to formal this weekend. In the third, I had thrown a tortilla chip into a friend's beer, and I was trying to retrieve it.

You're pretty NGFL...  Funny, I always thought you were a guy.

Kinda harry, but that's nothing some creative waxing wouldn't handle.

not a contest but mine's longer.  Mine is donation length...which is another reason I don't get it cut.  I like to donate my hair...when I can keep it from being set ablaze.

See, I want to donate to locks of love. But they require 10 inches PAST a ponytail, and I don't have that yet, that was my original intent when I wanted to grow it out. But now I'm getting my old job back, and they require the hair be above the collar on men, no ponytails, no exceptions. Which I personally feel is stupid.. but whatever.

You may feel it's stupid but you have to understand that as an employee you personally represent your employer in public.  Having long hair means you are either a hippy, a stoner, a punk, a homo or a nuerotic and it's bad business to advertise that you happily hire hippies, stoners, punks, homos and nuerotics.  Public perception IS business.

Having long hair can also mean you're a biker, which means you're a hippy, stoner, punk, nuerotic, rapist, drunk, wreckless, wife-beater, moron and/or hillbilly.

Haha, I understand I represent my employer. But I'm also a big believer in not judging people on appearances. I also have piercings, which are against company policy (understandably). However, I don't think people should let that cloud their perception of me. I'm still a good salesman. I averaged 80-90K in sales a month, which is well above average.

Hell, I went in on my day off, in street clothes, with all my piercings, etc, and started a conversation with a customer. Ended up with a $3K sale, just cuz she liked the way I talked to her, and my knowledge about the product. So while I understand their point of view about hair, I don't think it's justified or fair.

Long hair just means you're too lazy to cut it...

Lazy hippies.

I had long hair once...  But, then I realized that I'm a guy.

No, really...  I had to cut it for a job and found that I much prefer shorter hair.  If my wife would let me shave it short, I would (yes, I know I'm whooped)...  1/4" hair may look silly, but it always looks the same sort of silly...  And you can wash it in 0.0004 seconds.   :thumb:

Hey Nick, I think I see your bike falling over in the background of that second picture.

makenzie71

yeah I know...plus I hate having to brush my hair and waiting for the shaZam! to dry.  Can't say it's a lazy thing because people with longer hair put a whole hell of a lot more work in it.  I'm too cheap to cut it.  I'd rather spend another $1 every month for soap then the stupid prices hair cuttin' joints want.  I think the last cut I actually got was close to $20.  Stupid.  I wish we had a barber shop around here...hair-joints - scam artists.  Barbers are awesome.

RVertigo

There used to be a $8 barber by my old house...  They'd give you a standard "guy" haircut and trim up any facial hair...  $8 and 15 min.   :thumb:

Now they have "Stylists" working there...  $18 and 30 min...   :dunno_white:

I have my buddy's ex-GF cut my hair...  She doesn't charge much more than SuperCuts and I don't have to explain things in "English-to-Foreigner Sign Language." :dunno_white:

Hmm...  That sounded kinda like something a bigot would say... :icon_confused:

makenzie71

f%$k the bigots...if they can't talk to me they don't get my business (except this one deaf lady in Cleveland, TX...$7 cuts).

I wonder if there's like an online list of barber shops....hmmmm....
