I know that I promised some better pics of maks exhaust a couple weeks ago but due to weather and general life circumstances I had not been able to deliver on that.  However, I was able to sneak away today for a short ride and did get some more pics.  The lighting and the camera both sucked but they should show everything on the exhaust that some of you asked for.

Too steep of angle for my taste. It needs another bend to flow with the bodywork.

Why do people sit helmets on their seats?  :cookoo:
Set it on the gound. Helmets want to be on the ground. Might as well put it there before it desides to jump down on its own. A little dirt to brush off is nothing comparied to permanent rash.
Common sense in not very common.

It dont look right....needs a sharp bend upwards after the foot peg and then another to make the can roughly parallel with the seat line.  Any chance of a close up of the welds, all that black paint can hide a lot of "Pigeon-Sh**". ....Guess if you are happy thats all that matters.

hey is that a hyosung gt650r next to your bike? o and that exhaust looks good :thumb:. hows it sound though?

The hyo gt650r next to the gs is the other bike in my sig.  It is what I ride daily and the gs was ridden by a friend of mine today so that I could get the pics.  The angle of the exhaust was a compromise to get the best high mount location while still maintaining all other stock configurations.  This is exactly how the exhaust is routed on an rc51 but I do have to agree that it just doesn't quite flow with the gs.  Who knows, maybe it would look better on a faired version.  Here is an refresher of the rc51 for comparisons sake.

Remember, guys, I was told to make it fit all GS's and to make "cheap".  What you see is how it fits all the 2-cyl GS500's, and what you see is how it's made to where it'll sell cheap.  If those two extra bends were added the price would have gone up $40 (and $200 was already out of all of your league) and then the exhaust would only fit like 97 and newer models (whenever the tail changed...don't remember at the moment).

Mak, sometimes its hard to explain industrial processes to people. Its gotta be Mass produceable ... if there is a word like that.
Add in 1-2 extra bends and you get more chance for error ... it will end up being like Oh oh ... this will only fit a 89-00, oh this is so f&*ked up ... I'd have to weld this on ... Pretty soon ... you have gone from less than 1-2% waste to 20-25% ... and you have to pay a lot more attention welding it ... like tacking it and trial fitting it, modding it and tacking it again ... gets finicky ... been there, done that ... anyone remember the first 1-2 generations of the infamous flange. Yea ...
Cool.

Thats fair comment, if you want quality you have to pay for it.

i would like to see an exahust for our bikes that terminates under the body, a la Buell Lightning or Kawasaki 650R

i might be willing to sacrifice the center stand...

It's not the center stand that's the problem... it's ground clearance... we just don't have it... I think..

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

baco99

but our pipes already wrap around the underside of the frame.  instead of running them all the way along, you create a Y-pie closer to the can and install the can under the bike.  you'd need a can similar to the Kawi for it to work.  something low profile. that one almost looks like a small car muffler.

makenzie71

No....you don't understand...the GS does not have the ground clearance.  I've checked.  Numerous times.  You HAVE to design the bike around something like from the get go or jack the ride height up to stupid elevations.

Buells and the 650R both have 12" of ground clearance designed into them, minus those mufflers.  You couldn't keep a hotdog intact under a GS.

baco99

OK.  been looking at pictures and looked at my own bike.  The exhaust already passes under the frame.  Why not cut after the Y-Pipe, as you would for the Srini-flange, and snap on a mini-can, just before the rear wheel?  or along side the frame, just under the right foot pegs.  a little heat shield for stop lights and you're golden.

makenzie71

There isn't room.

That's a 3.5" can and I had to jack that EX500 4" higher to get it to stop dragging.  The EX is higher than the GS.

baco99

too bad.  it' looks much nicer, IMO

ledfingers

lets not forget, add two more bends, especially ones so close to 90 degree angles, you're getting worse performance. 90 degrees of bend is equal to 300ft of straight pipe in backpressure.

personally i think a little shorty can mounted down right behind the footpeg would look good. put a little less of a bend right under the footpeg, then almost immidiately mount a can so it's about the same angle as the tail. that'd look good...imo

makenzie71

300 feet?  It irks the hell out of me when people say things like that.  The only thing a 90 is going to do is slow down the lead pressure wave.  The following gasses will push it back up to speed beyond.
