I belong to a Yahoo group - FreeCycle. The idea is to post an OFFER of stuff you don't want anymore, but that is too good to totally toss in the dumpster, thus saving landfill space, making the planet happier, etc.

I don't troll the group page, but just get daily emails of the postings. If you want something being offered, you just reply to the person making the OFFER.

I have delivered and been the recipient of some great stuff. Of course you do see some odd stuff from time to time....like listing #7 in today's email.

CLICK ME  :o

Perhaps she should have rephrased her OFFER?

I tried freecycle last year.  Didn't bode well.

I tried to give away two items to two seperate people.

No one showed up MANY times.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

That seems to a common theme with FC groups. We have our share of that here in South Carolina.

I have usually been able to place items by waiting for a day or so for all the Taken-wannabes to chime in. Then I try to sniff out the ones with real needs and contact them first.

I've only had one item that the taker didn't follow through with. A few weeks ago the moderator had PC trouble. I went through her machine (she was on dial-up  :o ) updated XP via my DSL, changed her access to pure XP based, deleted/defreagged and got her running surprisingly well for dial-up.

Much karma from that I hope and made a new friend while at it. Less urban areas are better suited for FC groups IMHO.

I used freecycle to get get rid of cucumbers last summer...we had a shaZam! load of them and I didn't have time to pickle any. Some people didn't show..some people showed within the hour...all depends...I only had a few go bad so it was worth it...I hate wasting food...especially home grown food...

Yeah Mom belongs to freecycle. She Gave away a thigh trainer the other day and I was stuck at the House waiting for the Person to show to Pick it up.Around 10:30AM I decided that I needed to get my packages to the Post Office before they Closed Down for Lunch so I could Get my Truck Starter to Town to get it rebuilt and get the Car I borrowed the Day before back to my Uncle and get to work Before 1:30PM so I didn't get Bitched at.Well I took off and Got the Packages to the Post office before 11AM got to the Alternator/Starter Shop and they were out of Business  :icon_rolleyes: So I got home and the lady that come to get it called and talked to the Answering Machine to say she Showed at 11am Bitching because she was Back in the town where I Just came from from the Starter Shop.So then I went to the Auto parts and Bought a Rebuilt Starter that was Rebuilt by Poor "Special" Cuban Kids thats going to go out within the Year.I stopped by and threw the Starter in the back of my truck so I could put it back on After work.I got to work and Crawled Aroung under the Boss's Deck and Cleaned up leaves.I got back Put my starter on and Went Home to find that a mosquito had Bitten me Behind the Right Ear.Yesterday Morning I woke up and realized that it wasn't a Skeeter Bite it was a Damn Spider Bite.I spent all day Yesterday Sick and Out of my Head with my Ear and Neck Swollen up.I felt much better this Morning but could Only work until my Head felt like it was going to fall off.

Oh man, there's a couple of white/blond muts up the street that chase after anything with wheels. I'm thinking about buying one of those soft pellet guns and mounting it on the handle bars...  "Go ahead. Make my day."  I wonder if they come in automatic??

When you are dealing with the general public you gotta take what comes along.
Freecyclers are a special case of the general public.

Jughead, you would have been better off telling the lady where you were going to leave the item.
I've met people in parking lots of all kinds of places.
All kinds of people now that I think of it.
Weird people too.
Hmmmm?
