When I first saw you damaged bike I thought you got hit head on. After seeing the video Im amazed your bike took so much damage. Hope you feel better. Sorry about the GS.

tntmo

That should buff out.

Glad you're okay, had a similar deal happen to a friend of mine when we were lane splitting just south of Santa Barbara on the way home from Laguna Seca a couple years ago.  Dude crossed the line and punted my buddy off his bike.  My friend got a ticket for speeding (driving to fast for conditions).  The other guy (illegal immigrant) got nothing.

scratch

That's why I got uninsured motorist insurance added this year.

Robert - Glad you survived and hope you feel better.

What did you learn?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

WOW, Im glad your ok, looks like you went an extra 20 feet from your bike! Was the mini van that stopped the same as the guy that hit you?
Thanks for posting the video, I know you are in pain and don't feel like it but it helps us all to see what happened and to learn from it.

Can someone explain why there are double yellow lines separating "same way" traffic? maybe there's a carpool lane on the left? We don't have that out here

Gnarly accident, Blast.  Nearly been there a number of times.

Glad that you're relatively okay.  Get yourself better.

[edit] That looks like the 5 north just north of the 55 freeway.  Is that where it happened?[/edit]

Glad to hear that you made it out ok. What gear were you wearing exactly? It's always good to know what stuff has been battle tested and made it through.

From the little clip that you showed, you appear to be going pretty fast, but I think that's a bit of an illusion. After watching it a few more times, I'm just not sure without seeing the part before the video. Either way, you may want to take down the video for now. While the minivan is clearly doing something wrong (crossing the DY), both your speed and lane choice could be viewed as contributing factors. I know it seems unlikely that someone would stumble on the video on gstwins, but covering your ass never hurts. I don't mean for that to come off as condescending, but I've never seen a definitive answer about lanesharing in the carpool lanes in socal. Personally I think it's generally safer (your incident notwithstanding), but legally I'm not sure how you stand.

I'd agree with what Brett says about the video.  It's a legal double-edged sword.

Yeah...  Brett.  There goes the neighborhood!   :o  I think infamous suits a bit better than the other one...

Dont forget to claim for new gear, you are entitled to it if you are not at fault. Most people here in the UK dont and the insurance Co that pays out often "Forgets" to remind them of the fact.

In the US I've never seen a double yellow seperating traffic going in the same direction. I thought a double yellow always separated trafic going opposite directions in a no pass zone. Was there construction or something funky going on or are some roads in Cali normally like that?

frye

carpool lanes have that right??
perelli speed demons,15t sprocket, full jardine racing exhaust, rejet. COMING SOON-SM bars, maybe a katana rear wheel

ducati_nolan

All the carpool lanes that I've seen just have a solid white line.

It seperates the HOV or Carpool lanes from the rest of traffic.  Its to keep people from darting in and out of traffic.  There are only certain areas where you are allowed to enter or exit the carpool lanes....

You love those double yellows when you're in the Carpool lane, driving at 50mph when everyone else is sitting still.... but it can also go the opposite way if some one breaks down in the carpool lane.

ledfingers

they're all over socal. tragic's def was perfect. but it also sucks when it doesn't mention your exit is the one after next so you have barely any time to work through traffic in the little teeny areas it give you to enter and exit.

so cal freeways... must be insane. When I was down there I understood the actual need for high performance in a car. Power, handling, and braking. Didn't see too many beat up Volvos in LA... probably would be run off the road and devoured.

Even the lanes have lanes... sheesh

I'm on your side but u gotta admit u were rockin' that yellow double line pretty hard when he turned into you  :o

Blast

I see plenty of old beat up volvos!

I work on volvos all day.

Im just glad it wasnt a volvo in my way!
