so I got my first bike, and have been enjoying it so much!
I bought it used from an individual -- he did not have the owners manual.  is the manual available for download?

also, my first mod will be the headlight.  the housing is all pitted and corroded.  I found this thread:

Where can I find one of those housings?  I found a similar one on ebay that has a skull in the center for over $100.

What chain lube do you guys recommmend?  I sprayed mine down with WD40, and so much gunk and dirt and grime came off it was unbelievable!  I then sprayed on some generic chain lube I found at an auto parts store.
What oil do you guys recommend?
What are some things that I should check out on the bike?
On my clutch handle, the wires for the switch are pulled off, and there is a paper clip connecting the wires, "bypassing" the switch.  The seller said the switch in the handle went bad, it's the switch that makes it so you have to hold the clutch in to start the bike.   How can I fix this?

Next weekend I'll try the DIY carb balancer.

My rear brake squeels really bad when I come to a stop, and some times I can feel it lurching when I come to a stop-- so hopefully the rotor isn't warped.  What do you guys suggest for that?

Thanks for all the help and information, a lot of this can get overwhelming for a first timer with no one to lookup to :)

Everybody has different oppions about what chain lube and cleaner to use.  Personally I use kerosene to clean the chain then lube it with Motul chain lube.

For oil alot of people just use what they find at wallyworld, again everyone will have different preferences.  I get my oil from a motorcycle dealer not to far from my house.

You can buy the clutch / starter switch from any suzuki dealer and a few online retailers try
www.ronayers.com www.bikebandit.com www.oneidasuzuki.com just to name a few.

Manual your pretty much going to have to either find one on ebay or order a new one from your dealer.

and hello
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

Welcome!

+1 to what blue said.

The rear brake normally squeals alot, but if you can get your rear wheel alignment perfect it will go away.  Otherwise, stomp harder on the rear bake to make it stop squeeling.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

I am riding a 99 GS and it is my frist bike as well, so I can share some experience with you.

Chain lube, I am using bay ray... ppl recommemt PJ1 but any good chain lube will do, stop using WD40
For the oil, I have tried some different oil, and fond the Castrol RS 10w-60 is good.
Just the usual staff, check the oil and tire pressure.

For the clutch lever, it is the switch problem, I reckon alot of ppl by pass that switch cuz some ppl say the swith isn't realiable, but it isn't hard to fix, what you need is the swith from the local dealer.

And the rear brake squeels, it may due to the groove on the bike disc, as far as I know, using hard compounds brake pad will speed up the creation of the groove...... the easiest way to fix it is replace the disc and the brake pad....

hope this help,
Cheerz
A crash is the result of the rider's mistake, so don't blame the bike

A rider should be able to control the bike but not controlled by the bike, becuase on the track you don't want to DNF and on the road you don't want to lose you licence
