carb reinstall

Hey,

Just had a few questions to double check a proper carb reinstall.

1) I got the carb mouths seated properly in the rubber gaskets. How tight do I make the clamps around these gaskets?

2) The fuel tube coming out the bottom of the fuel selector- that goes to the T joint at the bottom of the carbs?

3) The t joint on the top of the carbs near the airbox- is this just a breather...wasnt sure where the hose went (does it tuck under the clamp on the airfilter screw?)

4) The brass nipple on the right carb exit mouth (when facing forwards), this tube goes under the carbs around to the box on the side of the fuel selector?

Any other things I should watch out for....throttle nuts tightened

Oh yeah....the mixture screws for stock- they are supposed to be about three turns out?

Many thanks

Is it ok to store the carbs upside down (by mistake) with NO fuel in them?

1,  it's hard to overtighten them with a screwdriver.
2. Yes.
3.  That's what it is, but I"m not certain as to where it's supposed to go.
4.  I believe you're correct, but my bike has an older carb design.
5.  Somewhere around there.
6.  Yes.

Ok cool, thanks for the confirm. I got it started and figured out that it ran better with mixture screw about 2 to 2 and a half turns out.

I'm still having this bloody problem of throttle hang when the idle is set to 1200rpm. I set it after its warmed up, but it races to redline when I blip the throttle.

I had figured having the carbs cleaned would have sorted it out but apparently not.

What I'm thinking it is- is my suburban machinery handle bars....if you think about it they are lower than stock, so there is going to be more play in the throttle line. I think want happens is that I'm essentially setting the idle adjust to far up (screwed in) to take up this slack

I dont think my K&N is the prob because Ive got the restrictor in.

The only other thing it might be...I'm sure the carbs have been tinkered with - but I didnt check the jet sizes when I had the carbs apart- maybe something funky there?

Did you make sure the little o-rings were under the plastic caps?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Actually even with the restrictor the K&N can mess with you I had to have a mechanic resynch and adjust my mixture screw to sort it out.   He said next thing I need to do is rejet  So I went ahead and had him order it in
