Big  difference between these two tires. It should be an easy decision. If you are between these two. They aren't even close. Do you want to commute or zoom zoom?

I want to commute, but loss of traction is easily my biggest worry when riding.

Forget the AM51/52, they are now obsolete.  Actually they weren't too bad for quite a few miles but that square rear got squarer and squarer and they got bad.  Took mine off at at 9k miles.

Now we have the new Avon Roadriders and if they are better than the Am51/52 and shaped right, they will be a real bargain.  Just got my rear bearings fixed and my RoadAttack back on and still love that Lasertec/RoadAttack combo.

BUT!!!!  My dealer has the new Roadriders and they are $100 cheaper for a set than my present combo.  I may be trying them later this summer.  About time I slowed down and started acting my age.

So why doesn't someone try a set of the Roadriders and let us(me) know how they are before I wear out my present tires.   :thumb:

Check the prices at AMT and Southwest,  I'd go with the 110/80 front and the 140/70 rear.

The roadriders are what I'm buying tomorrow.

If cost is an issue you want to control.  I suggest using front tires all around, race or other tear offs work just fine.  The rear of the bike will be lower, there I recommend ditching the stock shock and getting a '99-'02 SV650 unit (it will need the lower collar drilled shorter), this will raise the rear an inch or so to compensate.  Then it's cheap bike, cheap rubber, cheap fuel.......... who said bikes are expensive to maintain?
sold!...... only my SV650 remains with me

huh? a front tire on the rear? You're kidding right? These companies don't just throw oil on a vat and POP, out comes a tire. Much time and money go into research and developement. Don't mess with it. There are front and rear tires for a reason.

Pilots are stickier and have a shorter life, RT45's last longer, but won't exactlly act like there is KY on your tires.

I would say you'll be fine with either BT-45's or Pilots. Your choice, but I am one out of hundreds here.

Performance report anticipated when/if our 2nd winter ever leaves Ohio.  At least you're not getting all the lake effect snow down in Columbus.

We are still getting snow right now in central PA. I hope I can ride in a week or so after the deep freeze.
