What "fast" bikes have you been on?

OK, a fellow biker has 2 bikes.   His "main" bike is an FJR (pretty sweet bike) and his "other" bike is a Triumph Sprint that pretty much sits around and collects dust, but it's been getting a lot of use lately.   He's always been telling me "The keys are in it, any time you want to take it out."

Well, I finally got over my irrational fear of breaking his bike and took it out the other day.    I rode it a few miles slowly to get used to the throttle/clutch/brakes/steering.   The mirrors are fecking useless, but that's irrelevant.   And the forward-leaning driving position started hurting my left wrist after just a few minutes, so I know this would not be the bike for me.

The bike was good and warmed up, and I felt pretty comfortable on it, so I thought I'd give it a little goose when the next traffic light turned green.  I only took first gear up to about 15 or 20 MPH, then shifted into second and gave it about 1/2 throttle....SH*T!   I was doing 60 about 2 seconds later!    Since the speed limit was 45, I thought that was fast enough.   But I did the same thing again at the next light.   The bike probably could easily do 85 in second, but I don't want to take it there.  Yet.

Other irrelevant notes:

3-cylinder engines sound funny to my ears, but sound sweeeeeet  over 6,000 RPM's.

I like mirrors that I can actually see behind me.

The suspension feels much better over bumps than the GS.

My GS now feels like a toy.

So, what "fast" bikes have y'all been on and what were your impressions?

On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

I rode Dave's (Blue05twin) '06 Gixxer 750. Holy wow. I took it up to like 11K in 2nd gear.. and was close to 80ish.. in the space my GS would need to hit about 40.... and then I stopped twice as quick. It was amazing. Well balanced, responsive without being twitchy. I could honestly see a gixxer 600 somewhere in my future (like.. 2 or 3 years from now)

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

I went from the GS with the stock jetting/pipe/airbox to the GS with pod filters/re-jetted/Yoshi exhaust.

Anyway, I put about 11K miles on my mom's YZF600R (Not the R6), and that went insanely smooth/predictable all the way up to 135mph.  I4's top end pull is something to be in awe of, for sure.  Recently I've ridden my friend's '01 GSX1000R, and another friend's '05 GSX1000R.  The '01 is pretty heavy feeling, and it pulls best up above 80mph, but the '05 is just incredible.  Power wheelies anytime, with a little clutch, in any gear.  He was next to me on the freeway in 2nd gear, whacked the throttle open and the front came up with no clutch.

I've run about 13K miles on my new bike, '00 Ducati ST2, 85rwhp and lots of torque.  That thing is a blast in town and just lugs along at 5K at 80mph on the freeway in 6th.  I love it, so easy to ride long distances compared to most any other bike I've ridden.

For the love of god Nick please wait like 10!!!!! Just kidding  :kiss3:

I had a zzr600, soft, comfortable, smooth, lots of power, but I went easy on it because I owed on it and couldn't afford payments and to fix it if something happened.

GSXR Telefonica edition was the first I4 I rode..it blew me away..but now that I really think about it..I wasn't all that impressed

I've ridden my uncle's monster, felt like an oversized GS...i wasn't impressed...much like the SV...riding position hurt my knees.

Took a kids 636 out...that bike was awesome. I've never felt a bike so smooth. If I wasn't dead set on a 675 I'd definitely consider a 636.

R6 was portly, It didn't fit me at all...it went fast big whoop I wasn't impressed...felt cheesy

I've ridden alot of older bikes not necessarily "fast" bikes. One I'd like to get my hands on and ride is a Kawi H2.

I've only ridden 2 bikes other than my GS
'04 Ducati 998r-  2 years ago first bike i ever got on, scared the holy shaZam! out of me I was doing 120 in 3rd and I said f%$k this I'm done.  looking back:  Insane weight to power ration!!!  I wan't that bike, but my friend already sold it   downside:  uncomfortable as all hell my back hurt after 20 minutes and I'm only 21

'07 CBR600RR-  Not as fast, but still pretty freakin incredible when you compare to a GS.  Very stable at any speed  ( speaking of which the shop checks your top speed when you get back and they get mad if you went to fast)  I didn't try any wheelies seeing as it was a shop bike.  Also had a slightly more comfortable riding position than the ducati.  I didn't pay attention to speed until 145, but that was in 5th with the revs very low, lower than I would be comfortable with if I needed to gain any more speed  :icon_mrgreen:  I'm pretty sold on this little beast and it sure beats the price of the ducati  with Military Discount the dealer qouted me 8,400 out the door.  Probably gonna get this one when reenlistment bonus drops

lots of fast bikes...spent the most time on my TLS.  Touched off 165mph (corrected speed...like 175+ indicated) on occasion.

the wildest bikes include...

1450cc BPU Hayabusa
Twin TD025GT Hayabusa...447rwhp @ .8 bar
1254 BPU++ Bandit (144 ft/lbs)

Wildest bike, by far...CR500 bored and stroked to 622cc, BPU, street tires.

bout 152-155 on the front straight of VIR....every lap for an hour...... :icon_mrgreen:

My favorite was the V-Max, back in '88. Nothing like the raw power. I had a '88 ZX-10 at that time. Probably the first in the SE with one. At that time it was the faster production motorcycle made. Nothing compaired to the bikes now though. I had it up to 168 indicated. Probably the most lasting impression was at the beach (leaving all the women out at this time) and a guy on a Ducati stopped to admire my bike. Ironic since I have always like Ducati's, until the not so sexy 999. This was also back in the days when sportbikes were not as common.

I had my TLR close to 10K in 6th gear on the front straight at CMP. Calculated somewhere around 165. Stock gearing and still wanting more, sucks with a 90 left hander closing pretty dang fast.

Common sense in not very common.

spc

yeah the 999 looks a bit akward..............    The Monster is a damn sexy machine though!!!!!  I'd love one of the S4R ones   just not as practical as a honda or suzuki.  Don't want to have to travel 100+ miles just for regular maintenance to keep it from voiding the warranty....  :icon_confused:

Naw Just Got Drunk and was Riding.Of course it was on a Backroad so I was Just Endangering myself. :thumb: Yeah I was a Squid at One time.  My Cousin who Owned the bike was Drunk a Few Weeks later and the Front Fender Capped Over the Front tire and Flipped Him Three Times in 10 Minutes. The Second Time was Trying to Clear out of Town before the Troopers Showed up.He was Doing 55 and as soon as He hit the Front brake it Capped over and Slid him about 150 Feet. :o :o The last Time was In His Dads Driveway where me and Dad had to Lift it off of Him.That Had to be the Worst Case of Road Rash that I ever seen. :o :o
It was a Cool Bike but Just too Dangerous since it was Nearly worn out.

None, nada, zilch, zippo.

The only bike I've ridden outside of the MSF bikes is my little red slug.  Good thing it can't read...   ;)
