Removing Fuel tank on 2006 GS500F

Can anybody tell me how I can shut off the fuel at the tank so I can remove it. It does not appear to have the screw that I have read about somewhere and I would like to remove it without gas running everywhere.

Underneath the tank there is a petcock. You need a long flathead screwdriver. Turn that valve 90 degrees and it should shut the fuel off. Follow the lines from the frame mounted petcock to find where it is. It is towards the left side of the tank.

your going to have to lift up the tank a bit before you will be able to see it.. looking from the opposite side (brake side under to the drive side).

I have lifted the tank and the fitting on the tank does not appear to have any type of shut off that I can see. I am assuming that the shutoff whould be closest to the frame.

Yes. That petcock has a screw on the opposite side (facing the right hand side of the bike) that you need to turn. Look at that same "fitting" from the other direction.

go to google video and google Kerry Valve GS500. Then watch him take the tank off.

I took another look and found it. Definitely not as easy as it could have been if it had been designed to face the left side of the bike.
