Sport Demons?

Ok kids, I have ridden stock metzlers and gone far enough over to touch my exhaust...

I like how the bike feels, but a bit more stick would make me poop myself a little less in the bad situations. (Nothing like fighting front wheel lockup while trying not to pile drive the abs sports car in front of you that just dropped anchor. BTW hypothetical situation, but likely sooner or later.)

So in short I am unsatisfied with my metzler stockers and want much more stick.

I know sport demons have this stick, but at what cost aside from tire life and a thinner wallet? I've already figured that a mid season rear replacement is inevitable for the stick I want.

(I have racetech straight rate springs at the "racing" setup for me.)

Are they stickier than pilots?

Not sure what tires you mean by "stock metzelers."   Probably the ME330/550 although could be the older ME33/ME55 tires.

I never used the ME330/550 tires but have used the older ME33/55 and can testify their newest Lasertecs are a great improvement all around.  They have the same 33/55 tread patterns with the latest in tread compounds and multi radius contours.  I wore out a pair last year and was very impressed with them.

The Demons, Activs, and Lasertecs are all up to date and it's too bad nobody can test them all and report.  I like the Lasertecs because of the front tread pattern, but the Sport Demons seem to be the most popular on the EX/Ninja 500 boards and with many here who don't want to go to the supersport radials for max performance.

My guess is the Demons are a bit stickier and the Lasertecs longer lasting based on my experience with the Lasertecs and on what others have said about their Demons.  Alse we are now getting excellent reports on the Pilot Activs from members here and the older BT45's have just been updated to the latest compounds and contours.

Can't go too wrong with any of these larest bias tires but probably the Demons will be best performance wise unless you go to the supersport radials with the 150/60 rear, the pilot Powers or Power 2ct being very popular with the EX500 guys who have same size wheels as ours.

I still love my Lasertec/RoadAttack combo except for the price.      Think the the RoadAttacks will fall midway between the best bias and the supersports in both traction and tire life.

I've had the BT45s for my first season riding...2times in the front, and 3times in the rear, bacause of a nail halfway through the second one...I just got the Sport Demons on a week ago, and have put 250 miles on them already...I am wayyy more comfortable with holding a higher cornering speed...amazingly, I've learned how to turn right alot harder since the new Demons!  :thumb: :thumb:

150/60R17 Sport Demon?  No such tire.  Sounds like a supersport radial size, the Demon is a bias ply tire.  Maybe a Pirelli Diablo or a 150/70-17 Demon.

I have 130/70-17 && 110/70-17 Sport Demons...  I have about 10k miles on 'em...  They still have OK tread, but it's getting close to time for new ones.  Rubber checking is starting to get pretty bad, the rear is getting square, and the front is starting to get wavy...

I used to be great about keeping the pressure spot-on, but I've been slacking... I'm sure if I'd kept up with it they'd be better off.
