Anyone tried to install a Plexifairing GT windshield on their GS500?

Hi there,

After much public ridicule of the old Tracy fairing I have mounted on my 1991 GS500E (you know who you are), I am looking for a replacement windscreen/fairing. Besides, change is good. :)

I have pretty much decided to buy a National Cycle F-15 Tour Shield:

I like the shape and style and it looks like good coverage for spring through early fall here in PA.

But for mid-autumn through the winter and early spring, I'd love to have hand protection and better overall wind coverage, so I'm thinking about buying a second windscreen/fairing and swapping them off.

The best shape I found is this one from National Cycle again, their Plexifairing GT model:

I like this GT model better than the PlexiStar 2 that several members here use because the GT model offers some lower body wind protection, while it is less invasive than the company's huge Plexifairing 3 model.

The only problem is that National Cycle says it won't fit a GS500E. Hogwash, I say, they are essentially universal fit and I'm sure it can be made to work.
So I ask you, have any of you fit one of these to your GS500s or have you held one up to see if it might work?

I'd love to get your thoughts and comments. I bet it can be made to work without much hassle..

Thanks,

Todd

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Yes, I have a Plexistar 2 on my GS for winter thru spring use.  Looks like this:

The one on the bike now and in the photo above was ordered for a CM400A and when I got the 97 GS back in 99 I put it on and it stuck out too far past the headlight so the light was picked up thru the shield.  It is much more curved than the one intended for the GS500 and also more curved than the other one I had on hand that was ordered for the Nighthawk 650 I traded on the GS.

I used the flatter Nighthawk shield till fall when I put the GenMar risers on to move the bars back and the more curved CM shield then fit just right as shown in the pic.  The CM400 shield is also shorter than the GS or the NH shields and comes up to about chin height on me which I like better than the taller one.

I put the smaller Slipstreamer Spitfire on in the summer and thru fall till it gets cold here in NE Ohio:

407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

Anyone know of anyone who has installed a speed triple flyscreen on a gs500? I would like to know how to do that with dominator headlights. HJere is a link to the fly screen http://azsbk.stores.yahoo.net/flyscfi.html
