ECU is a Haltech F9. We had a basic map to work with, just modified it to suit.

To tune it we strapped a laptop to the fuel tank and rode it up and down the road in front of my mates place for about three days, adjusting it accordingly between each run. It's still not perfect but I had a deadline to meet so it was a case of near enough is good enough.

The GPZ throttle bodies are running standard 750 injectors,(not sure of the size). Luckily they fitted into the rubbers which join the GS carbies to the head. I had to change the spacing of the throttle bodies to match the head spacing, this was not a complex operation but there was quite afew fiddly little brackets, spacers and linkages.

The fuel pump is a Fuelmiser FPE-240 electric fuel pump. It's an after market external pump for a car and rather bulky around 160mm (6 1/2inch) long and 62.5mm (2 1/2 inch) in diameter.

Hope this helps.

So how long befor we can start a 'Fuel Injected GS FAQ and HOWTO' thread ?

I'll give good money toward a simple FedExable kit for a FI GS500. I'll bet others would too.

I probably would :thumb:  what the hell :thumb:  As long as price didn't got to high :o

Just thought I'd throw a couple of update pics

I have a few minor repairs to do after the workout it got a couple of weeks ago. The biggest problem I encounted was the rubber inlet tubes split open. Aparently 17 year old standard GS rubbers aren't strong enough to withstand 6 - 10 psi of boost.

Well, either you're part of the problem, part of the solution,...

I seem to remember expectations of 80-100hp, what'd it end up as???

Villager

That's an immensely impressive project. If, by your own admission, it's an enormous amount of effort just to make it like a bigger bike, what was your motivation? What kept you going through the long hours?
Mods thus far:

14 tooth front sprocket
Complete paint job, red to black
Oxford heated grips
Fenderectomy
GSXR foot pegs

...much more to come!

It's unique.  It may only put out the same hp as an SV or maybe an older Gix, but it does so using a GS500 engine.  It's a talking point and a work of admiration.  Anytime I see something custom, whether it be a gorgeous Ducati with custom paint or a revived old school Kawi 400 that's been bobbered, I take a minute to try to learn a bit about it and appreciate the work that went into it's construction.

+1

And I'm not talking about a busa with all the chrome ad-ons. A truly custom bike like this with many hours of work put into it deserves a lot of props! Truly excellent work. The bike is awesome.  :thumb:

A busa with chrome everything isn't custom it's just a statement of how far one is willing to go into debt to make 'the right' impression on other people.    Custom is something like this, or a Ducati 750ss with a custom paint job of a rippling Italian flag, or an old school whatever revived and given a little something extra.   This is an awesome bike and definitely proves that the little GS can be a monster among bikes.
