So I spent all day yesterday doing a valve job and carb cleaning which was way overdue.  The engine in my bike was sourced from a junkyard after I ran my original out of oil and replaced it so I had no idea what the condition was.

Just to share, all four shims were out spec, the worst being the left front exhaust valve which went from 2.70 mm down to 2.45 (!!)

Left exhaust 2.70 -> 2.45
Right exhaust 2.70 -> 2.50
Left intake 2.65 -> 2.60
Right intake 2.60 -> 2.55

So after all this was done and I checked the carbs it was too dark to ride so come this morning I go for a test ride and just as I leave, literally no more than 100' from my house as i shifterd into third gear, my clutch cable snaps  :mad: :mad: :mad:

and now I have to wait until monday (at the earliest) to ride.
just sucks being one thing after another to fix, huh?

ps the bike starts and idles SOOOOOO smoothly now that I did the valve job can't believe I put it off this long

I know the feeling. We had nice weather here for about 2 weeks, which I spent getting my bike ready for the season. (Lots of stuff I was working on) Then I get it all done and now its 30 everyday and snowing or raining.
