Wear your gear.

No but seriously. You're going to have to scrub it (gently!). Use a sterile gauze and running water to remove dirt and road crap. You do not want that stuff in there because it WILL get infected. Don't use stuff like hydrogen peroxide, as it can increase tissue damage and healing time. You don't have to get every single bit of dirt out, but try and clean it as best you can.

After you clean it as best you can (you might want to get someone to do it for you because you'll probably end up crying), use a non-stick dressing (Second Skin stuff is my top choice) and keep the wound moist while it is healing. If you can, get a prescription for stuff to help you heal (Silvadene, I think it is called). Change your dressings every day or so to keep it clean and make sure they are loose so you can get air flow to the area.

What about neosporin?

Hope you feel better.

Sorry to hear that... heal up quick!  Now you don't have to worry about dropping you bike on the track, it's already been done

Hey, welcome to the club. I'd be pretty ugly if I didn't wear a full face helmet every time I ride.  :icon_mrgreen:

I hope you weren't hurt too bad, and hope your bike survived with minimal damage. Here's to a quick recovery.

Quick recap before I head out for the night

I was taking the track bike for a quick spin around the block, hit some sand and went  down at about 15MPH, I was wearing my race gloves, helmet long sleave thick shirt and jeans. I just go a peice of rash about 1" by 2" long, nothing major, and my need got bumped a little.

Damage to the bike,

Bent clip on bar(easy fix)
Bent Brake Lever
Case Gaurds(scratched pretty deep)
Race Tail- cracked in the back
Scratched exhuast

Thats it, I mean the bike slid maybe 10 ft, which was rather surprising how far it slid

Anyways, pics to come tomarrow

Dgyver- what is the best way to repair the carbon fiber solo tail, it got cracked in the back on the side a little from the fall

Road rash on your arm? What part? Joints are hard to heal because they flex a lot, which causes an increase in scar tissue. If it is on your elbow or shoulder or wrist you will want to immobilize that part until it heals to avoid the scar tissue build up. This is what happened to my finger when I crashed.

Yeah, it probably got twisted when you fell. Similar thing happened to me on the track. Just wrap it in an ace bandage. How bad is the road rash? Pics?

Silver Sulfadiazine, I believe is what Brian is referring to. I used it when I got 2nd/3rd degree burns on my hand, and it vastly decreased my healing time, and left me with ZERO scar tissue (and thankfully no permanent nerve damage.. at least none that I can detect)

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Sorry to hear about the fall ... I meant to ask too, is/was your bike black or purple? If so, I think I may have seen you around campus. Hopefully you'll get it up and running soon, cause it's only getting warmer!
