Looking to do some modification to the bike but need some input from those who are wiser than I..
I have a 96 gs 500 and im tired of dealing with the single front brake and rotor.   I know on the front wheel you can pop the plastic piece off the left side and add another rotor.  this is becuase it is the same wheel as the katana.  If i can get my hands on another bottom piece of the right fork where the caliper is and swap it for the one thats on the left is it possible to instal another rotor and get another brake caliper for that side?   any advice on that would be great.
Thanks Nate  Daytona beach FL

No. The caliper mount will have the wrong offset.
Common sense in not very common.

mabe...but it will look retarded
if you use a second right fork......the caliper will have to go on the front of the leg....if you want to keep the fender
so you will have one leading caliper and one lagging caliper.....tarded!

find a katana front end....if you live in NC....i got one already on a GS...needs rotors and a set of seals

I did the reverse caliper bit on my maxim 400.  Worked great but it's a lot of stress on the fork.

What year katana end would work?   I had no way to cross reference the yoke bearings to find what size and year fits and which one doesnt.  I was also told that it would weight the front of the bike down andgreatly reduce performance. is that true?

89-97
stem brgs are same
yeah it will be heavier...5 # ish

forks are bigger dia....41 vs 37
dual rotor
dual caliper
same wheel
gs fender fits
clip on look

have th GS stem installed and ready to go with some slight mods
or use spacers just not as purdy

Uh, the additional weight would greatly reduce performance? Whoever told you that is full of it. Yeah they will weigh more but the benefits of less flex and better braking are much more important gain of performance than a little extra weight.

Yup, I could tell that my Gixxer Front weighed a good bit more than the stock when I changed em :thumb:  But, the performance has been nothing but 500% better.  There's no comparison between a heftier/higher end setup and the GS one.  I almost stoppied the other day on accident when I just feathered the GSXR brakes at speed a little to hard   I'm not sure you could make a stock front end stoppie with all the skill in the world   Despite the extra weight, with a better front end you will notice better acceleration due to the suspension not flexing :thumb: :thumb:
