I searched around the forums about the R1 tail light mod but I couldn't find anything about the wiring. I have one of the R1 tail lights coming in, but with the wiring harness cut off. I was wonder if I could just replace the bulb sockets on the R1 lamp with the GS sockets and wiring harness, or if I would have to cut off the GS harness and splice it onto the R1 wires?

My old GS Bulbs came out of the GS housing socket and all. Then they snaped right into the R1 housing. no cutting no mods needed.  :thumb:

Then the R1 housing mounts to the GS using the stock holes and fits like it was made to be there  :thumb: I had to get some shorter screws than the OEM Gs ones. But you could prob cut the GS ones down if you need.

Hm, I guess I'll have to start connecting those loose wires in the back to the GS wiring harness?

No.. Those 2 sockets in there (Bulb and all) should twist out. Then the GS sockets twist in there.

Nope, not yet, been spending most of my free time on my darn brake problem  :dunno_white:

Well, looks like I fixed both problems. After riding a while, my brakes started behaving better. Also, I realized that the taillight i got was a 98 R1 light, which is apparently different (instead of having 2 tubular circles, it's a brick, then 2 circles on it). Way bigger than the stock taillight, so I had to to sand down the plastics to make it fit. But overall, it looks good.
