Gear selector rod, help

Can anyone do me a walkthrough on how to replace the gear selector rod that the lever attaches too.  I have searched everywhere but only seem to come up with the seal leak solution.  I need to know how to replace the actual rod.  If anyone could help me out it would be very much appreciated.

pull engine out of bike
flip over
pull lower engine case.....
then it gets detail oriented
