You don't need help, come on you can change your oil cant you?

The only trick to installing aftermarket bars is drilling the locating hole for the switches. Pull all the stuff off of your stock bars and measure where the hole is at then drill it into the new bars. You'll need to use a centerpunch to get the hole started and a drill press helps (but any drill will do).

Of course you could just cut the nub off of the switches, but they are more likely to move arround without it.

Good luck, it isn't that hard

not going to take any chances drilling...don't have the confidence for that yet. i can wait a few days, it's probably going to rain this afternoon and tomorrow anyway. it's all good. :)

I had problem at the track once when I had to replace a clip-on bar....and it was not drilled. From then on...a little thing I do to my switches is to cut off the nub then install a 4-40 SHCS to replace the nub. The head is about the same size as the nub. I can remove the screw if needed to fit a non-drilled bar.

You knowledge amazes me, I just tore the nub off my controls when I crashed, and used a electrical tape to make it tight enough around the bars not to move. But the 4-40 socket head is brilliant.

Just drill the hole and do not worry about tapping the hole, the screw will take care of it. Make sure you do not drill all the way through. I have not done it, yet.

yeah but if I told you wrong then I will take care of it.

that is a dying breed of gentleman, and that's a dam shame.  it's so simple, but if we all took that approach...  to you D.

anyway - cheapest, heaviest barends I came across were Spiegler stainless steel barends.  they come in both 18mm (what most people need with regular walled handlebars) or 14mm for thicker walled handlebars.  the 18mm ones come in a few different finishes.

I have them on my bike and they are heavy.  comparable to stock and nice finish.  they look a little different since they are elliptical, but the work well.  I like them myself.  if you want to see pics, check out this thread.
