Finally a super easy and pretty cheap dual disk swap!

Okay so I practiced replacing fork seals on a pair of forks that I bought a little while ago before I tackled the GS ones. They were from a honda CBR600 huricane first generation (1987 I belive) I had heard that they would slip right into the stock tripples and they did!

I took the bike out for a test ride with the new forks and OH MY GOD! they are so much better than the stock setup!  :o

The brakes are a little bit better, but with a supper old tire and probally the original rubber lines it wasn't like night and day with the GS. I'm sure that with a new tire and braided lines it would be better still. At least I flushed out the old fluid and bled them.

The forks though were just amazing compared to the GS. I mean they actually work, bumps that bottom out the GS forks were barely felt on the CBR forks. They also have an anti dive feature that opens or closes a valve on one of the fork legs under hard braking, to firm up the fork. I really wish I had done this before I decided to sell the bike. Anyways, if someone is looking for an easy dual disk swap this one is is.

The forks = leagues beyond the GS forks.

Brakes = that single 310mm disc on the GS is doing more than those two solid, heavy ass 276mm pos discs.

I would do what I could to try and fit an F3 wheel and rotors in the forks...then stick an F2 rear wheel in the back.

Mak,  don't bust his bubble

I did that swap....in 1994-95

it was better, also the A/M springs help there....same as GS springs

now you are definately limited to a 110 tire....the front rim is a 2.75 compared to the GS's 3.0

did you get the cbr clip ons as well?
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

A F2/F3 front end with triples etc, will fit in a GS neck. In effect its about the same difficulty level as a katana swap though I seem to have arrived at that location with more grinding and possibly welding than a Katana swap like Dgyver does with spacers.
Cool.

I do have a photo but I don't know how to post photos on here and I don't really want to spend the thime to figure it out. PM me with your e-mail and I'll send you the pics if you want. It dose look pretty ugly though. As Mak said, the brakes aren't really that much better and the swap wouldn't be worth doing for the brakes alone. I'm selling the bike so I'll probally just put the stock front end back on and pass on the CBR front end to whoever needs it.

I may try putting the CBR springs into the GS forks just to see how that works, I may need to cut a new spacer but those springs in the GS front end would be almost perfect. Yeah I know that just buying some new springs would be just as good but I already have these.

I took apart both forks and replaced both seals and looking at the CBR springs, they look decent with a progressinve winding to them. Then I opened up the GS forks and couldn't stop laughing! Those springs are tiny! They are super thin and only 10 or 11 inches long. The specer is at least as long as the spring  :cookoo: I mean it's a joke. You'd think Suzuki would at least put something in there that would work. I think these  would be too soft for a 100 pound girl! and I'm pushing 200. No wonder my 1000 feels so much better. I probally wouldn't haver been as impressed on the test ride if I had beefed up my front end first.

Oh yeah, I did get the clip ons too, but they were bent so I'm in the process of replacing the bars. They'll probally be up for grabs soon.

I have a question here.If I replace my forks with the cbr forks, can I keep my stock wheel?I wanna keep my speedo and add a disk to that side of the wheel. Can this be done?
PICS are GONE never TO return.

The axle is a different size and the brake disk is also a different size so it would be difficult to keep the GS wheel. Anything is possible with enough time and money but it probally wouldn't be worth it.

The CBR setup has a spedometer drive on it so you can keep your stock speedo with this swap.

If you really want the GS front wheel, just keep yor stock front end but upgrade it with stiffer springs and thicker oil. HH+ pads will bring your braking performance up too.
