What chain lube should I use?

makenzie71

I use motor oil.  Clean once a week, lube up, go.

Motor oil will do the job okay but it'll be messy and fling everywhere, gear oil is only slightly better.

Use a chain lube that says it's O ring safe (unless you don't have an O ring chain) they usaually fling off the least.

I've had the best results with Maxim chain wax. It dosn't fling off and my chain seems to last a long time. I'm sure other lubes work just as well and other member will have a favorite but Maxim gets my vote.

I did not know about "maxim", I will have to check it out, but as per my local dealer, I use "Gunk" Cycle and Farm equipment chain lube, haven't seen it fling, but then again, I usually lube in the evening (IE: let sit overnight), to make sure maximum penetration.

Chain wax gets my vote.

my chain guard lost a bolt and off it came.

i was using chain lube/greese from a rattle can... untill i looked at my chain guard and the "fling" filthy is the word...

wax in nice, less fling and filth.

you could just shaZam! in your hand and rub it on there :dunno_white: :dunno_white:  at least then when it flings off at the guy behind you you can have a little laugh about it    I use PJ1 in the blue can :thumb:  I clean the chain every 600miles or so with a brush and gas then crank it and put it in gear on the centerstand so the wheel spins while I spray on the lube :thumb:

According to the Suzuki repair manual you shouldn't use gas to clean the chain.  They say it is harmful to the o-rings they use.  They only recommend using kerosene and specifically say not to use gasoline.

+1 on the kero.
I've used PJ1 but it flings to much. Now use Belray Super Clean Chain Lube.
Makes your chain look white but a lot less fling.

I use the Tri-Flow.  It's like a top-end WD-40.
