Time to upgrade the rear shock unit ... il faut qu'on fait comme ca ... this stock thang is fuckin' ridiculous!  If I'm understanding you guys correctly, the Katana 600 (GSX600F) shock from 1989 onward sounds like the greatest thing since sliced bread for a GS500.  Should one anticipate increased ride height, or is it about the same (y'all have pointed out that the Gixxer shock, though possible to fit, raises the rear way up and I don't care to effect same, but it sounds like the Kat unit may be a little more low-key).

Thanks for any heads-ups!

Kat shock raises it about an inch or so, but it doesn't seem to bother most people who've installed it.

look for a recent Kat shock-2001 or thereabouts. They're available. Ride height is raised a bit but nothing like the GSXR shock. Kat shock is a huge improvement over stock and is a direct bolt in. My page has lots of info on this as well as searching here for the various posts on the subject-of which there are many.

Welcome out of the dark...haven't seen you around before.

~1.5 inches at load and 1 inch no load.
RF6/9, B12 etc also have great shocks for the GS, B6 shock is crap, on an 89 GS literally any shock will fit with no grinding...The linkage is alloy instead of steel. So Kat 750 etc also work oon the 89 GS.
Cool.
