Do not overtighten the oil filter cap bolts after the filter replacement !

Funny story, I just did my oil change today and forgot to pick up an extra o-ring.  When I put everything together and started her oil was leaking out around the old o-ring on the oil filter cap.  I knew the bolts were fragile but I thought to myself "Hey self, maybe you should tighten that down a little more.  Ended up snapping a stud and wasting three quarts of oil.  After a nice long drive to the dealer for a new stud and o-ring I was back on the road before dark.  But what a pain in the ass.

In my humble experience, I have found the torque values for smaller bolts to be highly suspect (cover bolts especially). Snug them up using a short ratchet wrench and keep an eye on them. Check the tension over the first few days, and tighten them further, if necessary.
