The F fairings look cooler (in my opinion) and kind of armor-ish when the decals are off. Half my fairings are blank, Im about to remove the other half of the cheesy black 2004 stripes.

How should I do it and what kind of clearcoat should I replace it with? I was thinking of just going to Ace hardware and getting a can of something.

The decals on the fairing are over top of the paint and clearcoat.  If you remove them, just clean and wax where they once were and go riding!

yeah I did that to mine, easy peasy just peal and clean goo with something like goo-gone or windex and elbow grease.

I only have the tank to get done... but it under the clearcoat, so the tank will get painted when I get my under cowling sides done  (want a full blue bike , no decals on mine...)

Yeah, the tank requires quite a bit more work.  I personally think black fairings look strange with the stripes on the tank.  But hey, thats just one guys opinion. ;)

America is about freedom, independence, and the open road. Hence the fairings. Of course when you live in itty bitty countries 200 years past their prime with bitty little roads, theres no need for wind protection. cest la vie.
