Hi there to all proud owners of GS500E... im a newbie here in the forums but i have visited this site a couple of times before, i just love motorcycles and i happen to bump into your site looking for what else, motorcycles. First, let me introduce myself my name is Percy and i am from the Philippines but presently i am based and working  here in Qatar. Next week i will be the new proud owner this wonderful bike and i have a question to ask you guys... here it goes, the GS500E that i'll be buying is i think a 1996 model, i am just wondering if any of you guys have tried putting the new back fairings of the later 2003 model to the 1996 model (not the full fairings but the fairings at the back underneath the seat). Will it fit exactly or do i have to modify something? I really like the back fairings of the 2003 model than the 1996 model and i want to give my GS500e an updated look. Will a new set of back fairings be available and do you any idea how much they cost? By the way do you think the price is reasonable as i will be paying 4800 Qatar Riyals (aroung US 1,300 dollars)? The bike has done only 6800 kilometers (4250 miles).

Hope to hear from you guys soon.. thanks!!

Hello and welcome  :thumb:

The rear plastics from the F model are not a direct swap to the E model, they have different mounting tabs,
to fit, you must make new brackets and you'll need F model's seat as well
here's a link to 3imo's project bike,he did the conversion:

I have put the 01+ tail on a pre 00 bike.
Anyway 1300 is about what I sell them for if they are in good condition mechanically and OK cosmetically. Its a good price to buy it for atleast in the southern US.
To fit the tail, I had to make 2 hangar pieces for the front of the fairing, 2 weld on pieces on the back and 2 bolt on things for the middle. they are all very easy if you know to fiddle with sheet metal. I used very thick guage stainless which wasn't the best medium, but it did the job.
You will also need the seat and tank I believe from the 01+ bike as well as make some mounting blocks for the rear of the seat. You may also have to get a few washers up under the lock mechanism.
Cool.

Affschnozel and seshadri_srinath thanks for the reply... seems like its not that hard to do, but it sure would cost me big bucks considering i have to replace the seats and tank as well. nways, i'll see when i have the bike with me already. cheers!
