So I keep seeing these pop up as upgrades for motorcycles, and to be honest I dont understand what it "upgrades" seems less surface of braking to the visual inspection, can someone explain ?

1  they look cool
2  in theory.....they should allow better air flow for cooling of the rotor and pads....

so not real advantage for a daily/touoring rider like (that will probably never race on a track) to waste money on this "upgrade" as I will see nothing, short perhaps of "cool factor".

I think putting stainless steel lines on the GS500 probably will provide better differential braking than changing the rotors to waves one I guess. and it would be cheaper, any though on that ?

or from Galfer....
The primary benefit is that the wave shapes of the exterior diameter and inner profile of the braking track allow the disc to expand without deforming to ensure it always remains perfectly flat. This overcomes the problem normal discs face of the contact area with the pads becoming inconsistent through warp age.

and how do you increase surface mating area by drilling holes????

Well surface area of rotors doesn't matter in terms of braking( at least in the short term) you could stop the bike with a brake pad the size of a pencil eraser if you could keep it cool

The idea of wave rotors is to reduce weight, and increase cooling to the rotor, and you really just pay for a cool factor
