I was talking to a guy who I will say will be a grease stain within 90 days if he gets what he wants.
Him: Hey I'm gonna get a new buell firebolt
Me: Right on, you ever ridden a bike before?
Him: yeah, my dad has 3 bikes and I used to ride one on the street.
Me: But have you ever ridden a bike before that was your own?
Him: Yeah, I've ridden before but never had my own bike.
Me: you should take the MSF course I just took.
Him: I don't have 225 to spend on a stupid course.
Me But you're going to buy a bike that costs over 10k.
Him: Where'd you get your jacket.

Dear god these people are killing me lately.  I know about 3 people that in the last 4 months have laid their bike over and one guy died because he hit the back of a jeep doing about 85 mph in a 30 zone and he got some lady pull out in front of him and piled into her.  The sad thing was the 15 year old girl who almost died and will never be the same again because her butt was next to her neck when she landed.  I don't understand the theory of lets buy a bike thats way too big for me, and pretend that I'm the fastest thing on the street with it.

Here's a  story about a newbie on a GSXR-1000 that was just posted to R6messagenet (in the crashes forum)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About three weeks ago, on a Saturday, four of us guys went to shop for a brand new GSXR 1000. My buddy who is only 20 and without great credit, took his uncle to co-sign. Let's call him Dave for simplicity. We were shopping around forever. Finally, after 7 hours of shopping, all the paperwork was done. My more experienced buddy drove Dave's brand new Copper Orange GSXR 1000 home.

It was eight p.m. when we pulled out of the dealer. Dave had no time to insure the bike. We all advised him to wait until Monday until he starts to take it out. That night he was driving the bike around for a couple hours. He got the hang of it pretty well.
Anyways, the next day my buddies were going back to the dealership to get a few items. One wanted a new exhaust for his bike, and Dave wanted to buy a helmet for himself and his girlfriend.

On the way to the dealership, everything went smoothly. Dave purchased a helmet for himself and his girl. They had to order his, so he didn't have a helmet at the time of the crash. The girl's helmet was strapped to his seat (thankfully the girl was not with him).

They were all on the light. The light turned green. Everyone took off, except for Dave because he killed the bike. He started the bike up again and gave it too much juice. I guess he wanted to make up for lost time. The bike wheelies at about 45 mph and starts to tumble.
He was alright. No head injuries. He just scraped all the skin off his arms. He fell on his arms and elbows and proceeded in that position until gravity and friction stopped him.

No motorcycle license...no insurance. He has about five tickets. On top of that, he hit a parked car and has to pay for that. Plus, he has to pay him medical bills.
I know a lot of you are going to say idiot, dumb ass, etc... but it was just an accident. He didn't mean to crash his new bike.
Anyways, I voted to fix his bike for no charge. All he has to pay for is the parts. If anyone knows of where he can get some parts at a decent price, email me.
Thanks and enjoy the pics,

Rafal

P.S. The odometer reads "89" miles.

I hate to say this but the rest of the world has it right with graduated licenses :thumb: :thumb:

I know people have the right to be stupid, but I just fear driving on the same roads.  Why on earth knowing the capabilities of the R1 the GSXR 1k the zx10 zx14 hayabusa, would you go and get something like that as your first bike.  The kid above should have gotten the point when the  "more experienced rider rode it home"

This all falls back on using Rich for an example... Rich wasn't killed by a cager..he was killed by another biker, who had no business being on a bike he couldn't handle. The other rider didn't intend on going down, he didn't know Rich was entering the turn coming the other way, he didn't know that his bike in Rich's path would kill him. He didn't intend on any of that to happen, but it did. I don't buy those "I'm not endangering anyone but myself" excuses. The truth of the matter is, anytime you ride outside of your skill level you are putting yourself and anyone who may come into your path at risk. You have the ability to cause a world of hurt not only your family, but the families of those in the wrong place at the wrong time. That needs to be taken seriously. I don't know about you, but I'd prefer to have the skills to back up my "trash talk" instead of the "my bike is shinier, faster, and newer than yours"

I keep trying to tell one of my friends that... he rode my KLR650 once.... and before he rode my RM125 off road a handful of times... now he wants a cbr600! He has NEVER owned a 2 wheeled vehicle, just a 4 wheeler.... and he is the "go fast" type... I always tell him that if he gets a sportbike he will be dead in a week... his reply - I'll die happy! dumbass.

Against all of our advice, a friend of mine bought a used (race preped then converted back to legal) R1 as a first bike cause it was a insane good deal and a fast bike (duh!!)  Anyways, 2 wks into the ownership, he crashed into head on traffic cause he freaked out.  Luckily, no one was hurt, and he's still riding.  But now, he doesn't seem to have fun on a bike anymore, never relaxed, and is talking about giving it all up and staying off 2 wheels for good.

i work with a guy that stands 5'3" and about 120lbs (if he is lucky) and the first bike he bought is an 06 gsxr1000.  he can't hardly touch the ground.  luckily he hardly ever rides it.  bought is last summer, lucky if it has 1000miles on it.  he actually got busted for no insurance and no license in august.  he is always stalling it at lights.  i've never riden with him but some of the other guys at work have and they say it gets a little scary sometimes because it is WAY too much bike for him. (sorry i have a tendancy to ramble)
