Well its official, getting a blow out (flat tire in 2 seconds from something that put a hole in the middle of the tread ) @ 75MPH in the middle lane of a highway is definatly not fun. :cookoo:

its also amazing how the MSF course kicked in, and I credit me doing the proper steps to safely slow down, and get on the side (while in 7pm traffic) without a scratch....

Thank you MSF!!

Patrick, now needing a new rear tire.

I can't say I know what to do if a tyre blows out of by heart though I do remember reading it in our motorcycle saftey book.

Care to explain it for us :D

and what different technique is required if its a front or rear blowout.

well to be honest if you asked me to tell you... I am not sure I can recite the book.

it was fast, all I know is the tire blew, my butt started wiggling, I let off throttle, tapped my brake lightly to get my tailing to warn the car behind me, (never applying brakes), looked left, saw no car, dont remember if I did put my blinker or not, I gently eased it to the left lane tapping my brake light the whole way, and when I moved left I took the clutch out completly and let it coast as I applied the brakes very gently.. the wiggling is VERY annerving.

cars behind me saw the blow out, probably a reason why no one tried to pass me when I tapped my brakes (the wiggling was pronounced) if you ever watched the motoGP races, that wiggle they do on the rear  a few moments before flipping over to the ground... it sure felt like that bad...

the whole thing lasted but 30 secs to a 1 minute total from blow out to full stop. very quick. first thing I did it get off bike, lights a smoke and call the wife. then AAA... (BTW Gold AAA covers motorcycle towing as well.. for no additional fee)

I hope it answer the question...

Thanks for that.

I think you handled it how I'd imagine i'd handle it.

Flashing the break light by lightly touching them was a great tip however  :thumb:

I need to make a "emergency" blinker mod on this bike, I dont know why we dont have hazard lights.
