What bike ??? GS ???
Anyway, I have one I should sell.
I'd happily part with it for 50 cents a CC. Its ahem ... got no serial numbers ... I think they must have fallen off ...  ... yea ... OK cool.  O0
Cool.

Hey Srinath,
How and why do you have an engine with no serial numbers?
And why would anyone want to buy such a thing? Major "buyer beware" clause here!

Its got no serial numbers cos I snuck into your house and stole the motor out of the bike and I ground off the serial numbers ... buyer beware indeed  :thumb: ...
I dont know who or why its got no numbers. Obviously someone ground it off. But yea ... buyer beware.
Most states dont check numbers on an engine, most states dont have it in the title, and none of the states do anything like a number check with every years inspection.
In CA where I got his motor the title does have the engine VIN #. If a frame was junked and the title was destroyed, the engine's serial number is lost with it. I dont know if that means the engine cannot be re used on another bike. Anyway, I have what I have. I am not hiding or attempting to fool someone. I was going to use it in my 48K miler but sold that without getting to it. I have had it for several years. Going back to 97 I believe.
Cool.

Did your engine sieze up just recently or did you buy a bike with a siezed motor?

There are a couple of tricks to freeing up a motor, they haven't personally worked for me but they've worked for friends of mine. Besides it can't hurt if you're going to scrap the motor.

One method is to fill the cylinders with Coka Cola let it sit overnight and then try to turn the engine over by turning the wheel with the bike in top gear or coast down a hill and pop the clutch in top gear. Supposedly the acid in Coke will disolve the rust between the rings and cylinder.

You can also try a good penetrating oil like PB Blaster and fill up the cylinders and let it sit overnight with that.

If you can get the engine freed up and running it'll probally be a smoker but at that point it's pretty easy to home thy cylinders and install new rings. It's much more of a pain in the ass rebuilding a siezed motor, pplus you may find other problems.

Good luck

i bought it new a year ago, i guess it wasnt getting oil or something cause i had oil in it   if that makes any since to anyone who knows about engines   maybe the oil pump? it messed up the day before the warranty went out, i work at stubbs cycles a motorcycle store, so they said they'll see what they can do. it sucks not bein able to ride though, i'm hopin to get a gixxer 600 or 750 soon though

ducati_nolan

okay, sounds like the coke trick won't work for you. If it was under waranty, try to get them to take care of it.

In Connecticut, the only VIN that matters/counts is the one on the frame...

If the old numbers are already ground off and it's smooth, you can just stamp your frame number on there. Nobody would realy look that hard and it'd be easy to make it lok factory with the right style of punches.

alright well a mechanic at my work  had an 89 550e gs and gave it to me for $300, me and a couple friends swapped the engines  out, some of the wiring connectors are different and  i dont know what to do about that.  wiring diagram for all the wires coming from the engine? dont know if the 05 engine wires have the same connectors as the 89. on the 05 there's a three prong female connector and on the 89 i found a 4 prong male connector dont know if those intertwine somehow or what. but i have a couple of loose wires that i dont know where they go. any diagrams? thanks

makaveli2502

and also  the bike tries to start but wont  not sure if it has anything to do with any of those 3 wires not being connected, this sucks though i've been out of riding for 2 months cause my engine seized  i fianally get the  seized engine out of my bike and good engine (89 gs550e) into my 05 frame in in 2 days (around 4 hours of work) have the carbs hooked up, for some reason i cant get the airbox on tight. but besides that the bike wont start, like i said it almost sounds like its about to but never does. gas issue? air issue? wire issue? not sure which one.

Isn't the GS 550 a 4 cylinder? If it fits in the frame and bolt up, hey whatever, cool. My bet would be that the wires that you're talking about probally go to the coils and you aren't getting spark. You should pull a plug and check for spark.

Sometimes one model will have an extra wire that's a ground and the other one will just be grounded to the frame. Hard to say without seeing it though. Get out the wiring diagram and start tracing the wires.

It could be the crank trigger too. I think some years had one and most years had two?  :dunno_white:

makaveli2502

no 2 cylinder, i'm just going to switch out the wires from the broke down engine to the engine that works

makaveli2502

alright well i'm not getting any spark for some reason, i'm not sure what wire it is to make it spark   can anyone help me with this? please.   i have an 89 engine in my 05 bike. wiring different? i know the 89 engine runs cause i went over to his house and he started it up for me. (in the 89 bike) ( i swapped out the engines) now not getting any spark. i think thats all she needs.

makaveli2502

alright so i have a wire coming from the black cylinder  thing where the spark plug wire goes into, i followed the wire back from the right black cylinder where the spark plug wire goes to and it has an "L" shaped wire connector with an orange w/ white stripe and a blue wire going to it, that "L" shaped connector is unplugged where does it go? anyone know?
