Ok I give up, can anyone tell me what size the drain screw is on the float bowls so I can get a replacement? It has a non threaded bullet shaped tip on it, can't find such a screw, so I don't know if I need a to match the threaded length or the entire length. Home depot metric selection sucks, can't figure out the size at all...

You cant use a regular screw ... its a pointly screw with an O ring slot in it.
How about $5 and shipping for a pair. I have a few lying about. O ring not guaranteed. get a new one usually at autoparts store.
You'd see when I send you that its not a regular screw ...
Cool.

Stock screw is the only option then? Several people said they've replaced them with allen or other screws... Mine is partially stripped, I can still get it in and out  but I was hoping to put something more durable in there. I see it's not a regular screw, but was hoping something else would fit.

Allen screws ?? what ??? drain screw or bowl screw. Bowl screws are generic, 5 mm dia 12 mm length allens on an 89-00. Use a 10-32 machine thread available in stainless if you want a nice one that will never rust. Dont over tighten. Just use the short end of allen wrench for leverage. But Drain screws ... yea stock only.
Cool.

Yeah, mentioned here: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=35113.msg391181#msg391181

Maybe some confusion about what screw I was referring to.. When I pulled it all the way out I figured there was no way in hell I could get one at HD but I thought maybe there's an off chance that it still seals without the pointy bullet tip. Ah well.

OK The drain screw is at the very very bottom of the carb. It runs right to left on the right carb and left to right on the left carb.
That is not a 4 mm screw (BTW your 89-00 carbs are 5mm not 4mm, 01+ bikes are 4 mm and 4 screws per carb)
That link of yours is confusing and does not talk about this problem.
Drain screws cannot be swapped with any damn thing you find. The float bowl screws arer generic, and allen head work well there.
Cool.
