Two turns out for idle

Runs great. I tried 3 turns out and the thing would bog off idle, but at 2 turns pulls well from idle. Much smoother power curve and more low end pull after rejet. Warmup is slightly faster.

BTW...After cleaning my tank/carbs and the rejet, I've never had any "fuel starvation" problems. Used to be quite noticeable at freeway speeds and very bad if I jumped hard on the gas. I wonder if alot of the fuel starvation problems are gunk or jetting related and have nothing to do with the petcock..

Unfortunately Im about to sell the gs500.  She wasnt running well so we took off the carbs and cleaned the jets etc.  WE might need to do a full clean im not sure.  It runs a lot better but there is a flat spot somewhere in the lower rpms.  The jets are not stock and i cant figure out what size they are.  Im about to sell the bike I just want it in pristine considtion cuz I want to milk 1800 out of my 98.  Im putting on a new chain and going down two teeth in the front just gfor the hell of it.  I can ride it until I sell it aned hopefully it will feel like a different bike.....dont worry though I got a ninja 636 now and IM used to the power. I really want to keep the gs500 but it has to go.  I just want a stunt bike because I dont want to mess up my mint 636.

Think i need new jets.  Any pointers?  Im trying to get this thing sold and I want it to be running perfectly.  A friend and I are also adjusting the valves tomorrow...can you get the proper shims at an auto store or what?

Now, I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this thread is packed full of rejetting pointers.  Shims typically have to be purchased at a dealer.

This thread is really only for entering your jet sizes and other details, as a reference.  In the future, a question like this deserves a separate thread.

In any case, take a look at past posts and compare your setup (exhaust, air filter, possibly elevation) with others who have '89-'00 bikes (which all have the same carbs) that are running well.  You can get jets at a dealership, usually.

anyone know what size I should go to to get rid of that flat spot?

Type of exhaust                                                    Stock headers + Leo Vince SBK (bolt-on)

How many washers                                               Needle on fifth notch
How well it runs                                                    warmup time is greatly improved, better pull (more power) all the way from 3k-9k(I never pass the 9k) NO flat spots.

Previous settings:     1st try: same jetting, HiFloFilto air filter, GSXR stock pipe, needle on fourth notch = flat spot between 5-7 RPM on every gear.
2nd try: K&N RU-2970 air filter, needle on fifth notch = got rid of flat spot but hated the sound of the pipe.... freakin lawn mower :)
3rd try: current settings = love the sound of Leo Vince!

K&N Pods RU-800.
Yoshimura "Stealth" full system (black AL can).
Stock pilots, "Stage 3" Dynojet kit mains.  Mixture screw 2.5 turns out.
Dynojet needles, clip in the middle (out of 5).  Did not drill the slides.
Starts right up with just a hint of applied throttle.  Pulls clean from 4.5k to 11K, under that (if I'm in too high of a gear and go WOT) it'll bog and stutter.  No flat spot, no stumbling (after I raised the needles more) at that 7-8.5K range.
It varies, lobster tacos/pizza lately.  Beer, or gin-n-tonics or ameretto-n-cokes.
I had initially ran a larger main with a stock (drilled baffle) pipe and filter setup for the longest time (about 22K miles), but I found the full pipe for cheap and decided to go for it.  Riding a stock CA-model '97 with 28K on it now feels like a wheezy, tired POS compared to mine with the 1/5 throttle, airflow mods and ignition advancer.  Would NOT go back.

2.5 turns out (about, I tuned it more by idle response than specific # of turns)
Runs good.  There's a little hesitation at about 1/4 throttle, but is easily surpassed.  Otherwise pulls all the way through RPM range.  Still tweaking a bit.  Considering 127.5 mains or experimenting with more/less washers on the needle, but I won't do that for a while as it is running well.
Love me some Chinese food.  Mongonlian beef, General's Chicken, and Peppered Chicken especially....with a side of Crab Rangoon.  Good stuff.

Edit:  Installed 127.5 mains, left everything else alone.  So far it seems better.  The hesitation is gone and still pulls well.  Haven't tested it on a cold morning (which was when the hesitation was worst) or checked plug color yet, but I'm optimistic.
