[informative rant]

So, today I attended a rally of Suzuki GS bikes.  It was a fluke, really.  I was on tailofthedragon.com yesterday checking to see if our June "rally" was on their calendar, when I noticed another GS rally earlier in June.  Curious to find out what it was about, I clicked on the information link and found my way to http://www.thegsresources.com/index.htm .

When I got there, at the top of the page I noticed a rally in Brown County, Indiana for this weekend.  Now, Brown County is only 90 miles from me, so I decided to get up this morning, gear up, and see if I could jump in on their group ride.  I left my house at 8:00AM, rode some back roads with some nice sweepers and a few twisties, and arrived at their breakfast stop at 9:30AM, just as some of them were coming out and gearing up.  I pulled up to the initial group of three guys and spoke to them for a couple of minutes, and they were immediately talking to me like we were old friends.  They invited me to join their riding group (which consisted of two GS1100e's, a GS550e, a TL1000, a Kawasaki Concours, and my GS500e).  More people began trickling out until there were more than 50 people gearing up, and splitting in to groups.  The people were from all over...Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, etc.  All that I spoke to rode their bikes to the meet, and they were all super nice and welcoming.

We rode more than 250 miles today.  I was introduced to many fantastic roads that I hadn't ridden, met many wonderful people, and I joined their forum.  During all of this, I couldn't help but wonder why we haven't done anything like this.  I don't get many opportunities for group rides, and today's trip was superb.  It was as enjoyable, if not more so, as my trip to the Dragon last year.  The fellowship was super.  And they showed hospitality to me, whom they had known all of a few hours.  Yet, on this board, we can't get more than a handful of bikes together for a ride.  It's a little disappointing.  I kept plugging our forum whilst envying the comraderie that they shared.

This group of people, nearly all of whom have bikes more than 20 years old, made the trip to our rolling southern Indiana back country, and they have another rally at Deals Gap this June.  Why can't we get something like that going?  You know, if we can't get people to commit to this years ride, I think next year I'm just going to hop in to their rally.  Then I won't have to write these whiny-ass, annoying, emo-posts.  :icon_rolleyes:

We do do it. We just don't invite you.

Seriously though, I've met... 3 people from this forum, Blue05Twin, BOSS500, and Cheesy (I think that was his username.. goes by armatron now on other forums)

They've all been amazing people (Especially Dave.. how he hasn't murdered me yet, I'll never understand), I've ridden with them, and hope to do so in the future. There's probably 5 others that are on my buddy list on AIM, that I talk to on an almost daily basis. Unfortunately, geography and jobs play a big part in it. I'm only about a 4 hour ride from the Dragon, maybe less if I super slabbed it instead of taking fun roads. Unfortunately, my work schedule is so odd that I can never meet up with people. I want to, and it'll eventually happen.. but for now, it's just not feasible.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.
