i was talking to a guy at work and he said that he could out run my bike. it's all stock and he said his is to. he got a 80cc suzuki dirt bike and mine is a  suzuki gs500e.so we gone to race for title. any one out there let me know what you think.

80 cc very light and close ratio gears, if you run a mile surely will win, if you run 100 yards might lose...
Y2K golden GS, K&N lunchbox, 140/40/0/3, Progressive springs, Michelin Pilot Street Radials 110 & 140, R6 shock, braided front brake line, 15T sprocket, LED H4 bulb...

I have a hard time beliving that an 80 could beat a 500 but I know some of those little two strokers are pretty quick.

Practice your launches, that's where drag races are won and lost, just the first few feet.

Agree on a distance to race, the longer the better.

Get some sprocketts and gear the thing way down.

Don't race for titles  :cookoo:

werase643

um, the RM-80 ain't got no title.

go for 1-2 mile distance and you will win
1/8-1/4....you might lose

have fun
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

That first link is a vid of the GM80 vs a mustang mach 1, then the second link is to some info about the mach 1

Mustang mach 1:
Quarter mile 13.9 seconds @ 102.2 mph

GS500
13.60 sec. @ 93.17 mph

From seeing that though, I think that anything but the shortest of races, you will win.  But seriously, race for title?

Clutchless shifting... I can't seem to do it without making wretched noises and jerks from my bike, but even if you do it clumsily, it will get you going incredibly fast, incredibly quickly. This would be an additional 5% of speed.

I don't know I rode a little RM85 the other day and it Scared the shaZam! out of me.I weight 240+lbs and the Front end Stayed in the Air thru Most of the Gears.I've ridden several 1 Liter Bikes that I felt safer on.  I got my Start on a 92 CZ400 that Absolutely Stomped me a Few times itwas nothing like this little 85cc Screamer. :o

Just Make Sure You Get A Good Start , And Keep A Eye On Your Redline , Like , Dont GO Over It, But You Want To Be Getting Close, And Also , Racing On A Public Road , Doesnt Really Make A Race, To Much Stuff , Like Cars , And Poles ,And Police..

Police.......yeah funny thing....in most states drag racing on public roads is an arrestable offense ( Offenses where a license may not be displayed in lieu of bail ) :icon_rolleyes:
Course the RM80 isn't street legal either :icon_rolleyes:

I'd leave it alone and be happy in the knowledge that you can dust a 60k car :icon_twisted:

But if you do race:  with a stock GS, get as low as possible drop the clutch at about 3-4k rpms and don't go above 9k past that the Power Band drops off :icon_rolleyes:  And clutchless shifting is a good thing, but if you're not used to it it's going to jerk a lot, potentially dangerously in a race situation, so learn to clutchless shift smoothly before-hand :thumb: :thumb:

I have had a few of those little 2 stroke 80s.  Seen em toss a few of my friends that thought  it's  just an 80.  They are geared way low.  He will be ahead of you until about 50-60 mph but after that its all you.

ohgood

1/4 mile = you'll win
anything less = you'll lose.

i'm only saying this because everyone you know will be there, and you'll misshift, or loop it, or wheelie and tankslap, or something else embarassing. nothing like having your chick(s) witness you racking and THEN getting blasted by one of those 'little dirt bikes'.

keep in mind he may loop his INTO YOURS also.

FearedGS500

gs500 .. 13.9 in a 1/4 .. its not a stock gs . (unless its a naked one ) and still at that point its not a stock gs. . dont  second guess that 80 them things will move. but in a 1/4 mile u should win you should be about 83 mph at the end of 1.4

allone

that's why he kept telling me up to 60.it's just hard to see a 80cc dirt bike can beat a 500cc bike :dunno_white:

Fast Or The Ability To Go Fast Is Power/Weight

You could have 4000 bhp , in a 10 ton car, , is like a 400 bhp car that weights a ton , And they would be Equal *maybe*

I had A 110cc Crosser ,And it Was Very Quick Off The Mark, But At 50-55 Starts To Not Pull Anymore ,  Where As The Gs Seems To Pull All The Way To About 100-110 , then it slows down , But u need A Bit Of A Distance, Thats All

Tell him you'll race him first to 100 :icon_twisted:    Stupid RM80 couldnt do 100 downhill with a tail wind

Yeah the Power/Weight thing is accurate......Most of the time when comparing vehicles you compare it at hp per ton

For example:
Lambo Gallardo:  something like 450-500 hp per ton
Unreleased Ducati Desmosedici RR: (200+hp and sub 400lb wet weight )  soooo let's say 1000hp per ton :o :o

*Edit*
Forgot the GS.......
I think consensus is about 410 wet and let's be generous and say stock at 40hp :icon_rolleyes:
So a little shy of 200hp per ton :icon_rolleyes: :icon_rolleyes:

Ummm anyone know what an accord or civic weighs and puts out????

Jay_wolf

The Top Spec, Honda Civic 2 Litre VTEC is About 160 bhp But thats The Type S , The Type R Is Lighter And Maybe 180 Bhp ,

And Must Weight Over A Ton , I Think

Yeah I think most civics/accords are right at the ton, ton and a quarter mark :thumb:  Which basically means a bone stock GS on a lucky day produces a good deal more hp than those

Z07 vette runs about 2 tons I think and only pumps 500 hp so about 250hp per ton there........... a modded GS could take one of these up to a point.......Those things keep going when the GS runs out of gear ratio :icon_confused: :icon_confused:
