All I have to say is that this forum rocks. You guys know your stuff. I went from not knowing how to change the oil on my '92 GS500 (purple monster) to being able to pull the Carbs, disassemble them, clean them and re-install them.

I was constantly having the dreaded problem in which my bike would hesistate, jerk and then stall (most of the time while on the highway). From reading these forums I decided to give the Carbs a good cleaning. Once I got into them they looked really clean (which now looking back is a great thing). I cleaned them anyways and put them back on. I turned it over to Prime and the bike fired right up. YES!!!  I then turned it to Run and took it for a test ride. A couple minutes later it started hesitating, sputtered and died. I was at my wits end and decided I was going to try to sell the bike since I had no idea what to try next and I didn't want to spend the money on having it professionally diagnosed.

The next day I had someone that wanted to come take a look at the bike. I decided to try the forums one last time before I sold it. I spent some time reading and noticed that others were having the same problem and that running the bike on Prime solved it (looking back, when I turned it to prime orginally it worked fine... hindsite is 20/20). I thought I'd give this a try and it fired right up. I went for a 30 minute ride with no problems at all. I turned it back to Run and it died. I guess I found the problem (hopefully). Thanks to all the moderators and contributers!!! I have my bike back! You made a computer geek web designer feel like a mechanic.  It's still running a little rough so I think a carb sync might be next (with the home made tubing device I found here of course  ;)).

One quick question. I adjusted the idle screw at the bottom and now it seams that when you let off the throttle the RPMs stay up for a second or two and then drop back down. It's not too bad but does anyone have any suggestions on any adjustments I need to make now? Thanks again! You guys rock!

Welcome!

As for the idle try adjusting it back a little.  If that drops it a lot then make sure that your chock is all the way off. Last check if the chock cable(down to chock slide on carbs) is loose if it is that can cause the chock is slightly on/open, Ii have seen this cause what you are describing.

Thanks Srinath, I'd be happy to offer a gstwin edition. I'm just not sure what would make them specifically a "gstwin" edition. I appreciate all the help.

Will those fit under a full face helmet. Dont laugh, some "riding glasses" will not.
The stem should be thiner these are too broad and cut off the peripheral vision, and then ofcourse - gstwin.com engraved will do it. Can we have dark tint and or polarised ???
OK I can dream cant I.
Cool.

Welcome!  :thumb:

Purple??  :kiss3:

Here is my bike in all it's purpleness!

The lenses on those glasses actually wrap around so they don't cut off the peripheral vision. I've never riden with this style so I'll have to see if they fit under a helmet. I'll give it a try. I'll see what I can do about the engraving, polarized lenses, darker tint, thinner stems, x-ray vision and ability to shoot lasers. Did I miss anything. :) Seriously though, I'll see what I can do.

You probally have a leak in your vacume line from your carb to the petcock, or it's come off on end. That would explain why your bike won't run in the on position and why your RPM is slow to come down (indicated it's running lean from the extra air coming through the vacume port.

I thought polarizing was only possible with glass and not polycarbonate lenses, at least it used to be.
Common sense in not very common.

Egaeus

Well, they have polycarbonate (or other high-index plastic) lenses that are photoreactive, so maybe they've figured out polarization too.
