Katana Shock Question

I am preping my Katana shock to be installed.
Has anyone taken a shock like this apart and painted it?
Mine has rust.
Will my lowering links work with the Kat shock?

Check the Wiki about the dogbones,  I wouldn't advise taking the Kat shock apart, isn't it an Air based shock??

just took mine apart and painted it last week. No problem.
I borrowed a spring compressor from my neighbor ( he is a car guy), compressed the spring, and removed the 2 half moon washers at the top, and slid the collar out. The is also a keeper nut on the shaft under the collar.
Sanded the body, and taped the shaft. and painted it. Also painted the spring, yellow. I will post pictures if you would like.

UMMMMMM.I wasn't meaning disassembly of the shocks internals.I just wanna remove the spring and collar,so i can paint
the whole spring and shock body.

When you paint the shock, you need to use something like plasti-kote or plasti-dip (Don't remember the name).. it's an elastic agent that will stretch and contract with the shock. Normal paint won't stand up to the constant changes, and will flake off.

Yes.I knew I had to use a flexible paint.The spring will roll paint right off when you put weight o it for the first time.Thanks for the reminder.

You do not have to use flexi-paint. I have painted 3 of them now. The first one was painted with automotive paint, and It lasted  the 4 months I had it, and have no reason to believe It flaked off ( I used basecoat PPG, With a PPG clearcoat), The second one I did, was powder coated, and lasted for years. The current one I did was with automotive paint ( basecoat, clearcoat).
