hi there,

I'm still new to riding and my gs500, but when i got it, it idled at around 300RPM, so i adjusted the idle down to 1200rpm, is that what it should be at? I'm asking because since i've adjusted i've been stalling when getting out of first, and i wasn't doing that before the adjustement...is it something i did, or something i'm doing as a new rider?

thanks,
tt

getting out of first? if you mean starting from a stop then maybe you need to give it a bit more gas. Mine idles around 10-1200rpm and I was having a problem the first couple rides with not giving it enough gas and it'd either jerk for a second and then start going or stall. I have since gotten used to it and it's fine now. Maybe give that a try? If thats not the problem then hopefully someone else can help cause thats all I got :D

GS likes to idle around 1200 rpms so you're OK there
Check your clutch adjustment and just practice launching your bike ,you  have to give enough throttle and engage  clutch progressively not abruptly

And, if it still has the original factory jets read around here for how-to's and rejet it yourself.  They don't idle until hot with the way-too-lean stock setup.  It makes the bike much more compliant when launching.
